Revisit to a shady pink product

I've looked at these things before, but the circuitry always seems to be different between units.

I thought I'd check out the most recent version.

(It's still a shock hazard.)

Nice little simple portable fly killer, to send those annoying flies up to fly heaven. However the front grill needs attention for safety, from little fiddle fingers of kids. I think this can be achieved by 3D printing new grill with slightly smaller gaps and extending the depth from grill to shock plates.

Exculpate me by your brother’s - - - - Another translation failure from beyond 1980. To craunch a marmoset From “The Book of Heroic Failures” by Stephen Pile https://talk.electricianforum.co.uk/topic/30366-to-craunch-a-marmoset/

the solder looks terrible but reflowing wont help if your kid pokes a fork into it. on a diffrent subject have you soda streamed Pernod or Ricard I wonder if the bubbles will make it cloudy (like adding water)

DC Allan

It looks like they were valiantly trying to call it something but ran out of words.

Michael Thompson

It will work for other bugs. I've got a panel with a couple of UV bulbs that even in winter, attracts the random gnat or other flying bug, I can hear the *zot* anyplace in the house. If they'd just called it a "bug zapper" they'd have gotten closer to what it does.

I make the mistake of trying to eat some oatmeal while listening to Clive read. Hard to clean oatmeal off my keyboard. Thanks Clive.

Or rotting fruit for a more sanitary approach. Flies love bananas.

Zeedijk Mike

I 3D printing a box just like the back of the zapper just a few days ago for a LED driver. Reused the pins from an old exploded PS. The front of my "box" though it does have ventelating holes, is finger safe.

0:38 - If Clive did bedtime story reading, that would be a great one. 😁 As for attracting mosquitoes or midges (which I find worse here in Ireland), they only head for the light in complete darkness as they perceive the light as an opening to the outside. Once there is adequate light in the room or area, they will head for the CO2 source.

Seán Byrne

This mosquito zapper also zaps humans :)

Frank

That's how the mosquito and midge magnets work. Catalytic conversion of propane to hot moist CO2 that lures them to a vacuum trap.

Big Clive

I think mosquitoes are attracted by heat and CO2.

That text reads and has the exact same effect as Vogon poetry. For context: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih-3vK2qLls On an entirely different note... Gaudy, Split, Pink, Zappy and Sparky, yes collect all of your favorites in this ONE special offer! OMG OMG OMG SPAARRKKYYY!

Michael Thompson

Yes, invest the money for a discharge resistor for the LEDs but NOT for part that will shock you when you go to clean it... Makes total sense....

Lostngone

Looks and sounds like it doesn’t just zap them, it will obliterate them across the room in a million pieces 😂 spicy!

James

Those Chinese machine translations become better every day. "Electron go out mosquito small a night lamp". WTF :)

Frank

You could probably put a bit of rotten meat or poo inside it to zap flies. Mosquitos might require a more elaborate contraption involving a bucket of warm blood and CO2.

Wim

Perhaps it's only a wives tale, but when I was a young lad, my mother told me that skeeters were attracted to high levels of carbon dioxide. Thus any animal exhaling would attract them.

Wait wait wait waaaaaaiiiiiitt!!! I wasn’t sitting even remotely comfortably and off you went! Clive, we expect better: you know the script and deviation will not be tolerated. Except in this case: it was after all a perfectly fine video meeting your exacting standards. Thanks! That is all…I may have overreacted.
