Questions/topics for the livestream

Probably quite short notice, but if you have questions or topics for the livestream then you can add them here.

I still have a list from last time.

Comments

Yes. Once this situation is past there will be meet ups.

Big Clive

Hi Clive, once the imbuggerance is over will you be dong any more meet ups in Glasgow at least. The irony is not lost on me that the IOM is nearer to me than Glasgow or Edinburgh, but the latter is easier and cheaper to get to. I do like the coffee in Controls..

I didn't think it would go on this long, but I'm fine with that. The hernia discomfort will last about a year. You'll get used to working differently to avoid provoking it

Big Clive

Yes. Or more commonly, run out of steam just before a project is complete.

Big Clive

I'm all for electric vehicles. They're actually very popular on the IOM due to the short commuting distances.

Big Clive

I believe it was a mesh that was put in. In a way I'm slightly glad the Edinburgh Tattoo didn't happen this year, because even after a year I'm still a bit "numb" and delicate in the area of the hernia.

Big Clive

Each has its own merits. LED fixtures are good as washes or features on big events, but the discharge lamps really pack a punch for the main lights.

Big Clive

I keep a range of resistors, electrolytic capacitors and common transistors.

Big Clive

Not hugely. They have their uses, but for real-time pattern generation their data timing and speed needs are ruthless.

Big Clive

Resin potting and numbers being scrubbed off components.

Big Clive

I'm not sure where you could get remote phosphor panels.

Big Clive

It's been fine. No issues that come to mind.

Big Clive

Update us on your Blackview phone. How is it holding up? Any quirks? I think i would've preferred the Blackview over the Armor 9 to be honest. I miss wireless charging. The phone is a homerun otherwise... after I 3D printed a button guard for the soft power button that is really close to the center of gravity.

Michael Kulczycki

Never seen Saturday Night Clive? ;)

Frank

Had a great time as always.

Michael Thompson

Where can I get some remote phosphor led bulb filters?

Brendan Perkins

Will acetone usually dissolve the stuff off of "Glob Topped" chips?

Phr3d13

What's the most annoying user servicing blocking design feature you've come across?

Olly Whitton

Do you see yourself getting into ws2812b style LEDs?

Phr3d13

What "Default" values of components do you find most useful to keep a stock of?

Whippet Gas

Whats in that Plug ! you know you want to open it

Hello Clive long time no text. we in America are suffering elrection bullshit at the moment I was recently given 2 ampheads both fender made in indonesia im going to go thru them and see what failed they both have a small digital power supplies simular to the ones you tear apart. If postage wasnt a killer Id send one to you. Yes they weigh a lot less than ones with transformers. But when they die the local dealer just cuts the power cord and speaker cords off and throw em in a pile the throw away amps anyway hope to catch your stream today william nimmo your devotee here land locked in the tip of Illinois

William Nimmo

Add a diode in the supply, that will drop the voltage by .6 of a volt.

That's a very good question!

Basti Elektronik

Clive, do you prefer LED fixtures or HID ones ? And why quality optics make such a large difference to a lighting fixture...

What are your views on electric transport? Cars, Motorbikes, Bicycles, Standup Scooters etc?

Russell Couper

I had a hernia op, caused by constantly lifting heavy PA and 8 x 4 sheets of steel deck for building staging. They put you out and you don't feel a thing. But afterwards, you do get aches and pains for quite a while similar to the aches from having the hernia.. Was yours a Teflon patch, or just over stitching ?

Can you acquire and tear-down a £25 ham radio? They are ridiculously cheap and incredibly capable. Baofeng UV9R or similar.

Steve Brace

I'm probably a little late for this but, 1, did you ever imagine that you would still be doing these live streams after all this time? 2, how long did your hernia op take to stop hurting? (I've just had an emergency one and it's a tad sore)

Neil Tonks

Have you ever done a project then got 90% the way through of making it then thought "fuck it's not going to work".

Also does this include daisy chaining single way extensions to achieve a longer length?

What is your biggest accidently caused explosion /electrical bang or biggest shock.

N. Shaun Tremayne

Not a question, but a "thank you" for continuing to do these streams. It's been a great way to fill the social void on Saturday evenings.

How do you go about creating a new product? (light-thing, lightcontroller , ...) Your thoughts to "sane" safty? Due to lockdown, had time to go threw my old ideas... Cheers & See Ya

Spook´s Wood

Can you make Floating Flammable Cloud and shots them with puff machine?

has anyone built any fun kits?

Kevin Hardisty

A bit of a personal one: I was wondering if you ever had problems at work due to your sexual orientation? As I was working as a manual labourer, I noticed that we were not exactly the most enlightened and tolerant bunch around. I could imagine that it could get quite uncomfortable for anyone sticking out, depending on the people.

horrovac

How do stepper motor drivers work, have you ever taken one apart? Are they different to servo drivers?

If you couldn't use PICs in your projects what would be your next choice of MPU?

How many jelly babies can you fit in your mouth?

Coil B

How to successfully de-pot potted PCB's (using solvents and other "Tools")

Peter Luijer

If not, how about six hundred quid for an exhaust?

Steven Raith

Ooh, can I have three grand for a supercharger for my car?

Steven Raith

Congrats to fellow Bearded Bloke Bill Bailey. You up next on Strictly?

AlfaGuy

If you could Thanos-snap only one organisation away to never, ever return would you choose Capita, the NICEIC, or someone else?

Do you ever get that.... unfresh feeling?

Scrufdog

Have you ever played around with zirconium dust? It is pyrophoric and quite interesting, it comes stored under water and would add some nice sparks to your foam whoffle🤔😁 (Mancave Effects)

I've built a couple "1.5hz blinky LED boards" and the resistors I've bought were slightly too low so they are bright, could I just add a resistor to the input to dim it?

What's your view on the jet-skier that landed on IOM?

John Carr

What do you think about the Dutch home wire system (with 5/8” tube and the central box)?

Hubert Hoefsloot

Have you ever been too drunk to finish a video?

I would like to hear a bit more about the strobes you made and any others that you have worked with. MegaVoltMeister

Jeff Larson

I was once told that you should never daisy-chain extension leads. Your thoughts?

Stephen Pettitt

Do you have a tool or piece of testgear that you think is underrated / not well enough known / unusually useful ?
