The Christmas project video

As usual I've left things far too late, so I'll be releasing this video for general viewing tomorrow.  Christmas has crept up really fast this year.

Those of you who view the live streams will know I've been including OpenSCAD scripts in some of the video descriptions.   This script has already been released there as a little extra feature to a stream.

This video is all about the script though.  Using it you can make your own custom caps for LED light strings or just as a stand-alone light.

Unrelated to Xmas, I did just get a new Prusa i3 MK3S+ 3D printer to replace my ancient, broken Lulzbot TAZ 3. I am astonished at how incredibly accurate and effective it is - it's truly a joy to use! 3D printing has come a long way in 6 years. Anyway, point is, I'm now looking for every excuse I can think of to print things, and this provided me with a perfect one, so thanks, Clive!

Merry Christmas, technical family!

Clive could just save the .STL files and put them on thingiverse but as soon as it's an STL, you loose the ability to easily edit them. He'd have to do a load of different types which defeats the object of the SCAD file.

Weew, weew, weew, weew, wuuur, wuuur, wuuur, wuuur... After a while you can "hear" the geometry.

Wim

They do sound quite musical when printing. Less so on a delta printer though.

Big Clive

I like the polyhedral ones vs the smooth shell, they also sound more interesting when printing on the Ender 3. Thanks Clive, Merry Christmas big guy.

Wim

Thanks, I've corrected it.

Big Clive

I think you have places a typo in there. "fat" probably was meant to be "far", though sleep issues i can uns=derstand making that happen, or just really fast typing.

Ps I found using a brim ( in Cura) the safest otherwise I had some fall over - best was to print multiple and set the brim size so all the brims join to print a ‘mat’ of them

Have been playing with the version on your website - the link posted on here - literally hours of fun both to print them and then to make the lights ( the warm white and the slow colour changing being my fav) I’ve tried colour plastic and clear. I’ve used a bit of hot melt to secure them and (in effect) pot the resistor / strain relief - I did make the base length quite long. Fantastic, thanks and season’s greetings Clive

Would you consider putting the .scad file on thingiverse?

Leave it to our man to keep giving us gifts then apologizing for it. ;)

Michael Thompson

After you have generated the file, don't forget to save it. I know you can san.ve the STL file but the amount of times I have only saved something to print, closed the software down. Then gone to change a parameter and found all I had was the STL file.
