Vanilla light teardown

Since every other video I was working on has gone "complicated" or required further materials, here's a nice plain light teardown and assessment for hackability.

Vanilla light teardown

Big Clive and his "inappropriate tool" approach to life. This is why we watch, it's just way we lesser mortals do it!

The one I was looking at on Ebay has Bus bar solder points. I know I have seen somewhat similar stuff but seems to be something from years ago.

Perf board, or veroboard if there are continuous tracks along rows of holes. It's used to create simple prototypes by soldering wire links between component leads.

Big Clive

Hey clive. I just came across this Perf board and cnat think of what ot might be used for. I dont usually look for boards. I just grab what I see on Ebay, this was accidental. Description is 2/4pcs 1 Sided PCB Busbar 2er 3er Proto Perf Board FR 2 4.5*7 cm USA Ship

I know exactly where that box is. It's not been explored too deeply as it arrived when the gadget mountain was getting unmanageable.

Big Clive

I bet the price will go up even more once this video hits the masses. Looks a great little light in spite of a few minor shortcommings. Now if that was me it would be, "And the grub screw is out... and lost!"

Dr Andy Hill

Surely it's machined from a basic casting rather than a solid cube!

Mark Dennehy

I mean, if it's getting hard to get stuff for videos Clive, there's a box somewhere in the random pile with a dozen or so cheap multimeters... :P

Mark Dennehy

There is a tremendous amount of material waste in machining that out of a solid block. The mounting hardware says good luck trying to ever remove that from a wall nondestructively. Pretty sure I wouldn't want that power supply flopping around loose inside a wall anyway.

Bill Kerr

That is a nice aluminum enclosure. Makes the whole thing worth it
