Random Chinese high voltage "thing"

I bought this purely because I couldn't find any information on it, and wondered what the relay was for.

It turns out to be a double portion of Chinese ingenuity to shave component costs and keep things small.  The relay bit is actually quite clever, while the high voltage pulser is eyebrow raising in the way it's used a standard component.

You had me at "random Chinese", high voltage was just the icing on the cake.

AlfaGuy

Aww but i wanted raccoon oxygen 😁 so the question is are glyphs phonetic or literalπŸ˜‚ wasn’t ever able to get past pre toddler glyphs

Cerity

Using simplified Chinese the writing on the back says "It's electric, skunk oxygen"

A coronavirus generation chamber! lol

Mike Hanley

So good stuff! So sparky! Awesome!

Michael Thompson

Nope, audio fine.

Did anyone else have audio wonkiness at :30-:45? Maybe it is just me...

Press to start reminds me of the lathe we had. Big box on the wall. Lovely sound as the motor got up to speed and you could let go of the button.

Nuts 'n' Proud

Maybe it's because you spoilt us the other week with your two-foot high 'Jacobs ladder' ...but (to quote the actress) ...I was expecting something bigger. πŸ•΅οΈ

Well, one of each type just got bought. Now for the wait!!!!!

Did you notice they have 2wire (no relay) and 4wire version (the one Clive has) I like how Clive tested the discharge using the 2 wires, after proving the relay part would do its job.

Found a listing that describes them as chopstick sterilisers. How Bizarre. https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Chopsticks-Disinfection-2-4-wire-Universal-Ozone-Generator-Sterilization/363234561626?hash=item5492778e5a:g:9QsAAOSwWplf5ozg

Yes, Indeed, I shouldn't be too surprised if I have to have one as well to play with! I wonder if it could make an ignitter unit too, or if the extra discharge current would bang the SCR! At least they're starting to get smart enough to use soft potting, The hard stuff always fails in the end, specially if the potted circuit temperature cycles! Does anyone recall the stuff they rammed down our necks in tech about strain relief!!!

William Taylor

Interesting! I wonder if it's for one of those lab extraction units? The ones where you stick your hands into a pair of gloves to work on dangerous viruses, chemicals etc. Who knows! Well, I suppose somebody must......πŸ˜„

Nick Kendall

That is very cool Clive

Mike Wynne

At least they're cheap. I like to think of them as low cost technical entertainment.

Big Clive

Damn you Big Clive......making us buy all these electronic gadgety things :D
