Is this video a bit abstract?

I was struggling to stay awake when I made this video due to a few restless nights leading to sleep deprivation.  Does it show in the video?

https://youtu.be/AM2DMuryw_A

Should I at least re-record the second part?

On a plus note, event the little 1W Dubai lamp has nice circuitry despite the small base.

Is this video a bit abstract?

Comments

PeetieGonzalez - I absolutely agree

I'll keep the noodles in mind. I sometimes use porridge to help me sleep.

Big Clive

These things should be available to purchase worldwide. The fact that they aren't is shameful.

PeetieGonzalez

Clive, what you refer to as "a conspiracy theory" is referred to by Phillips as "a sustainable business model" ;-)

Gordo

By and by are closer tolerances more expensive ❓

Cerity

BC isn’t all nuts and bolts ❤️❤️

Cerity

The video's fine, Clive. Nearly 3/4 million subs don't lie. Hope you catch up on sleep. A double helping of ramen noodles usually does it for me.

Mike Page

Another brilliant vid Clive 👏 absolutely nothing wrong with it. Get some kip! Keep safe.

Silly viewers, don't they know that your bear claws are unaffected by sharp metal or broken glass!?! Gloves are only for the rest of us! :D

Matt Larson

I'm a software developer and some of my best work has been while pulling an all nighter. But, also some of the time I wake up after working into the wee hours and find I've written a bunch of useless drivel. We didn't always use to sleep in the same pattern as we do now. Having two distinct sleep periods in 24 hours was common - search for segmented sleep. Maybe that might help you BC. The video was fine, no need to stress out over it.

AlfaGuy

The video is absolutey fine as far as I'm concerned.

Gary Bleads

Abstract is an anagram of stab cart, which goes to show that this comment is more abstract than the video which was absolutely fine :) P.S. Also sleep deprived here :P

Raven Luni

Not noticeably less quality that other videos..I am amazed at how clear and sharp your videos are both in content and production quality. Thanks!

Fishing for compliments, aren't we, Clive? Your experience shows, it was an enjoyable video. The only niggly comment I have is: please correct the wrong resistor values on the 3W drawing. :-)

Hagen

The 750 Ohm resistor is from the E24 (1%) series. Really like the simplicity of the circuit and still efficient.

Zeedijk Mike

When kids (anyone younger than me) ask me what doing drugs is like and what to try, I tell them to go to a safe place and hyperventilate or stay awake for four or five days. They will experience new things if they survive. Side effects can be permanent! This way it’s free and legal (just stay away from me when you do it!).

Jim Rogers

Video's fine by me!

Adam Christensen

Salmon fishing in the Yemen... even if you’re a king wanting to lift your people up, you can’t give it to them 🙈

Cerity

Wait. What? You sleep BC?.

Not wanting to be too serious about it but I wonder how many more environmental resources the extra components take. Just wondering out loud why more governments don't push for more efficient bulbs now they know they are out there.

nowt

Video was fine Clive, and yes let's open the next lamp!

A few contentious issues regarding the ruler of Dubai at the moment. I'll say no more!

Andrew Donaldson

Hi Clive, no, I don't think you need to redo any of the video. Most won't have noticed you were struggling, even those who have followed you for a while - it really doesn't show. It's another interesting chapter in the Dubai lamp series, and it would be worth adding the 2W lamp too.

The Isle of Man has just gone back into lockdown I believe.

It seems this comment section is already down the rabbit hole, so.. Clive, now that lockdown is over for you it's probably a good time to consider some time off, we all need to reboot from time to time. Michael Thompson, are you OK buddy?

The Tinkering Shed

Fine Clive. I would not have picked up on you being tired if you had not said. Pity we cannot purchase these designs of lamps. I am a morning lark whereas I am sure you mentioned once that you are a night owl. However we all need some quality sleep and its not always easy to get it.

John Russell

So super king gets his wish and we get to dig through the refuse... Fuck you kingy. Big Clive I love you, but this is the the kind of bullshit needs world doesn't need. I don't believe in kings... I don't Beatles... I just believe in me. You and all and me. -That's reality. I just need light in a time darkness...

Michael Thompson

Absolutely no problem at all, except the fact I can't buy the Dubai lamps here.

Right now I have no sense of time to speak of. ...and I can't still haven't make a coherent sentence when I text. Stupid brain...I'm so gonna stab it with a Q-Tip... Just make sure you eat well so you have energy. Hope you are okay.

Michael Thompson

No, definitely not too abstract, although the tiredness did show through a little at times, it was not to detrimental to the overall video. Personally I say no recording necessary. I think for completeness sake you should do a teardown of the 2W lamp.

Dr Andy Hill

Video is fine, I wouldn't worry about it. But I would say the same as the rest. Limit your comment reading! 😁

SimplyElectronics

It's all fine Clive. To echo other comments: Please stop trying to read every comment; this will eventually become impossible anyway, so just skim them occasionally for the good ones and to spot nefarious activity. As for sleep; I find John Ward very helpful in the background, especially the ones relating to electrical regulation changes or, in extremis, try one of my longer vids :D Love you Papa Bear. xxx ;)

Steve Brace

And it's good you wore gloves. A glove. Yeah. It's so difficult to get replacement hands these days.

Nani Isobel

You do sound a bit tired but the video was good. Amazing what they fit in a small space.

Nani Isobel

it's Perfect IMO. Clear, coherent and indeed a treat. It would be interesting to see the 2 watt version in the future, but maybe keep in intact until you get more....Get some rest.

To put it another way, your wee babe does not have one parent. It has several thousand doting, loving parents. You are a creative genius.

Ymir the Frost Giant

As for worrying about sleep and worrying about all our comments, chill out. When I was a few months old mum worried a lot about me and took me to see lots of docs, none of them could diagnose any problem though. Then one of them told mum 'if every baby I saw was as healthy as this one I'd be out of a job' and then mum relaxed. Your own wee babe is doing fine and you really don't need to fuss so much - we'll soon ring alarm bells for you if we ever need to, and you don't even need to stay up for midnight windy burps, bottle feeds or nappy changes! Don't worry that you're not sleeping when you think you should - just sleep when you feel tired regardless of the time and regardless of whether it's the 'right' time for sleeping or not.

Ymir the Frost Giant

...your presentation is fine Clive. It does not need any alterations and kept me interested all the way through, even at 4am. If you're going to release it to the big wide world, the only enhancement I could think of would be a brief intro to the Hopi for those who haven't seen it before. But well done, very informative.

Ymir the Frost Giant

Not watched it yet but I will chip in with the symp votes if I may - I've been off sick for about 6 weeks so far and my body clock is nonexistent so I have some idea of what you say. I even have blacked out bedroom window but it makes no difference any more (did once). No matter what I try, I remain wide awake at night and snooze lightly in the day. I can only control my sleeping (sort of) when I'm working my shifts (clock on window 3am-5am) so maybe that's what you're missing too Clive - the obligation to be somewhere with your brain in tow at a certain time. I've been like it eer since I did a night shift in a depot for a couple of years about 15 years ago - ever since then I have almost never slept more than 4 hours at a time. Right, now for my morning's video delectation....

Ymir the Frost Giant

You sound fine, maybe just a bit mellower than usual. It doesn't need re-doing. Thanks again for a very interesting look at a unique product that few of us have access to. On another topic - in a couple of recent streams you've mentioned that you're still trying to read all the comments on YouTube. I'm concerned for your sake - nobody with a popular YouTube channel seems to be able to do this. The ones I'm aware of who didn't give it up instead burned out completely - it just seems to be a losing game. They don't make videos at all now. I realize the hypocrisy of this (telling you in a comment...) but perhaps you should give up trying to keep up with the firehose of comments on YouTube. I'm sure most of us would prefer more interesting Clive content to absorb above knowing you were keeping up with YT comments. YT users can still pester you during the livestreams of course :) C.

Charles

Some pretty impressive component-stuffing in that little lamp. They need to release these (or similar) as long life lamps everywhere else. I imagine someone will eventually do that as a "green incentive" thing?

Wim

You sounded tired near the end, when you discussed the different component values in the other lamps, but I don't think it warrants re-recording anything.

Michael Dunn

I dont think it shows too much, in fact if you hadn't mentioned it, the only spot where I would have noticed something was the thing with the snubber capacitor across the capacitor. I would just leave it in maybe with a small note in the description, and now get some sleep 😉

Clive, the video comes across fine but if you are sleep deprived I suggest you black out your bedroom windows with something and cancel any plans for tomorrow.....sleep is needed :)

Mike Hanley

Sleep deprivation is nasty business .. prioritize self care Clive, sleep is a must have. Note I didn't watch the video yet, so that is not a comment on quality :-)

Peter Stevens

I have done some crazy electronics projects whilst very sleep deprived. I think my family thought I had lost my mind. Lots off odd eBay rubbish and wires. Seems normal to me at the time but after getting a bad 240v shock I thought I should start getting back to sleep at night and not stay awake for days at a time
