Patreon mail is being spam filtered
Added 2021-09-22 12:39:58 +0000 UTCI'm not sure what's happened, but all Patreon mail in both directions is being spam filtered by Gmail right now. (Probably including this one.)
I have my own filter set up that diverts your messages to a dedicated Patreon folder, so I do still see them all.

It's the sync feature. Quite useful for some people, but I tend to turn most features off. Another thing to check is the trash or bin folder in your Google Drive as it can also occupy a lot of space with deleted files.

2021-10-18 01:49:41 +0000 UTCHow to turn it off: Go to your online Gmail account, sign in. Click the cogwheel near the top right corner. Select account settings, then click See all settings. Scroll down about halfway and uncheck "Smart features and personalisation". HTH.

2021-10-17 19:00:05 +0000 UTCThere may be more to it than this - I just had an email saying that my Gmail storage was nearly full. I have Thunderbird set up to download all emails to my PC and immediately delete the online ones, so I was a bit surprised. I went to Gmail online and found that Google One 'smart filtering' had been active for some time - first I'd heard of it. Its 'features' include 'smart' spam detection, and that's how I found your posting Clive - in an online spam folder whilst my Tbird spam folder was empty. makes me wonder what else I've missed. But there's a lot more to be concerned about too - allowing Google to use your data is no surprise, but when I found vids I had shot on my phone and then transferred via SD card, i.e. never sent over the web in any way and not even emailed as attachments ever, were also in this Google One account, and their many gigs were what had filled my account up, I was not amused! Another thing Ive noticed recently which may be a tell-tale for others, is that as a truck driver I sometimes search out a delivery point in Google Maps on my mobile, but keep all my other web searching strictly to my home PC. But recently whenever I start a search on my mobile, the first thing I see before typing it in is a list of all my most recent searches made on my PC. So Google has been transferring my search history to my mobile, and this could be another 'feature' of Google One I advise everyone to check your accounts and see exactly what personal data of yours has been misused without permission and put online without your knowledge.

2021-10-17 18:44:07 +0000 UTCIf you use a trusted host then great, if you try self hosting expect a never ending fight with gmail and other big providers. Email is the last federated service and it's being make difficult to exist unless you're on the major platforms due to their own aggressiveness.

2021-10-02 09:26:01 +0000 UTCGmail is one of the biggest spam sender around these days, yet any minor trivial reason they start so filtering your servers (sometimes for no reason at all).

2021-10-02 09:24:26 +0000 UTCI found this email and two other Patreon emails in my SPAM folder this morning. I check once a week just in case. π

2021-09-25 16:31:56 +0000 UTCI just checked my spam folder and only have one relating to you Clive and it was this one, but it came with a warning that it wasnt from patreon at all and not to respond to it.

2021-09-25 08:02:12 +0000 UTCI work in this area a little. From a very quick look (and a guess, I havent looked at it properly) DMARC is failing because the spf and dkim domains are not aligned sometimes - it looks as if there is a record for dkim=pass header.i=@mailgun.org and dkim=pass header.i=@mailgun.patreon.com - for DMARC to pass, DKIM and SPF must align - I'm guessing it's failing every other time due to the ,org?

2021-09-24 22:11:20 +0000 UTCYeah, about 50% of my Patreon mail is going to spam at the moment.

2021-09-23 08:34:20 +0000 UTCMy Gmail has become uttterly rubbish over the last 3 weeks. Heaps of legit stuff I usually open from certain sites etc going to spam, I had it forced to always "Basic HTML" and it keeps reverting to the horrible new interface since 3 weea back. They have clearly changed something (not for the better!) Actually worth paying and putting email hosting on my domain now!

2021-09-23 05:02:12 +0000 UTCI've been getting your Patron emails via Gmail all along.
2021-09-23 01:19:27 +0000 UTCCheers for the heads up. I'm guessing its fixed now, I've received the 2 most recent ones, saw this post and checked my junk, it was a little sweaty but fine so i went to my email spam folder and sure enough the email for this post was there. And thanks for all your vids (and non vids on here) they've kept me going through these tough times. Keep up the excellent work!

2021-09-23 00:00:49 +0000 UTCThank you for the PSA ! Ironically I saw the warning in my spam box this morning as I was going through the spam box to find a login code that never showed up for another site. I'm guessing somewhere a spammer has recently been abusing patreon, been flagged, and the whole thing had not gone through manual review yet.

2021-09-22 23:10:13 +0000 UTCSame problem with Hotmail/ Outlook, but its already fixed.
Dominik Mueller
2021-09-22 22:06:31 +0000 UTCSpam filtered on Yahoo! too, Spam filter got this email, plus one from Fran "David Eagleman: how the brain learns" :( Possibly now fixed as your Patreon emails Big Clive's new patron-only video: "This was a treat for all the wrong reasons" and "Big Clive just shared "Not a video. Poundland globe crystal fix" for patrons only" Did not go to spam

2021-09-22 21:48:31 +0000 UTCSeems to be fixed already. The latest email came through just fine to my Gmail.

2021-09-22 21:17:30 +0000 UTCI seem to be OK on DomainIT. Not sure what lists they use.

2021-09-22 21:12:36 +0000 UTCThere's a new set of dynamic phishing emails - that humans (let alone machines) would have difficulties telling apart until they can tune it.

2021-09-22 20:32:27 +0000 UTCI used the app on Android, which also works around how slow the site can be in a regular browser. Would be curious to compare the source on emails before and after this started. Patreon may have changed/added link/view tracking.

2021-09-22 20:20:41 +0000 UTCI'm surprised that PayPal mail would be getting spam filtered. I'd have thought it would be defined as never being spam.
Big Clive
2021-09-22 20:16:08 +0000 UTCI don't think it's the fault of Gmail. Something is making the email look fake like spam.

2021-09-22 20:14:51 +0000 UTCI wonder if it's a regional thing.

2021-09-22 20:14:06 +0000 UTCAs another data point. I have had issues with this in the past (last time was over a month ago). This message and the others I received today from Patreon were *not* in SPAM folder.
2021-09-22 19:56:45 +0000 UTCI just noticed this morning that I hadn't seen a Patreon email for a few days. And to add insult to injury the Patreon app hasn't been sending me notifications on my phone lately. Now I have a week of Patreon posts to catch up on.

2021-09-22 15:41:18 +0000 UTCThis message was put into my spam folder as well (though I'm not using GMail, but my ISP's email). The last message I received successfully (without landing in the spam-folder) was the video from yesterday with the Halloween lights. My headers said: X-Spam: yes X-Spam-Action: folder Spam X-Spam-Reason: DMARC=quarantine

2021-09-22 15:12:34 +0000 UTCIronically, I hadn't seen Patreon emails in the "Spam" filter until this message, which was indeed in the "Spam" filter. Bravo GMail. Bravo. *slow golf claps*

2021-09-22 15:06:28 +0000 UTCmine was in spam to :-(
2021-09-22 14:39:57 +0000 UTCI did wonder why one ended up in spam. I clicked "report as not spam" and moved it back to my inbox.
2021-09-22 14:37:48 +0000 UTCEverything from Patreon is going to my AOL spam box as well. Very annoying. No matter how many times I make the domain as not spam, it still goes to spam.

2021-09-22 14:08:36 +0000 UTCAhhh... they're using a popular third-party mail service (mailgun) and that subdomain is failing: https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=dmarc%3amailgun.patreon.com&run=toolpage

2021-09-22 13:44:02 +0000 UTCOdd. The DMARC record check is failing in Gmail, but a DMARC check says the records are clean: https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=dmarc%3apatreon.com&run=toolpage I'm guessing Patreon is aware of this (it certainly isn't specific to you Clive).

2021-09-22 13:27:12 +0000 UTCWell, I use Fastmail, with my own domain, and that's being filtered as well. My guess is Patreon is having shenanigans done to they're origination e-mail. (bingo@patreon.com). Either it's being reported as spam, or the spelling/whitespace changed.
Mike Bird
2021-09-22 13:21:03 +0000 UTCGmail has been filtering through tons of my emails as spam and itβs annoying!!!

2021-09-22 13:17:29 +0000 UTCExactly where I found this and one other Patreon message - GMail spam box. Maybe google is perturbed that Patreon is giving creators a way to support themselves that isn't dependent on the whim of google's algorithms?
Peter Laws
2021-09-22 13:16:52 +0000 UTCYep, also went into spam on Gmail. Marked it as 'not spam' so they were flagged into the mailbox. Seems like there's been an uptick in spam again recently, so google is being overly cautious. Edit - did an MXToolbox check for Patreon and there's nothing untowards there - and even more hilariously, Patreon use Google and Google Workspace as their hosted email provider!

2021-09-22 12:52:59 +0000 UTCActually it looks like it might be an issue on Patreon's side - looks like they may have issues with SPF/DMARC/DKIM being set up wrong
