Vintage slot machine coin counter in action

This is the payout counting mechanism in an old Bally slot machine.  This transition to electrical control allowed early machines to have extra features and larger payouts.

Note that this video may be a bit loud at bits as the sharp percussive noises from the mechanisms were giving the microphone auto-gain circuitry a hard time.

It’s a thing of beauty. Much as I love modern tech, there’s something deeply satisfying about the way old mechanisms like this just get the job done without any fancy huffing about. More please !

Did you do lacing? I remember being taught how to lace wiring looms for very tall Sonar Equipment cabinets.

Absolutely love a look back on Vintage ElectroMechanical equipment, Amazing video Clive, Really liked that one

so cool! love that you went into how it actually works....this is why I love your channel!

Learned a lot of electronics fixing an old electromechanical Pinball machine one summer vacation. the sounds really take me back.

If I could travel back in time I'd go back to 1975 so I could enjoy the old electromechanical amusement arcades again, then relive the electronics revolution.

These old electro-mechanical devices are so ingenious. The noise is part of the soundtrack to my youth!

Dr Andy Hill

Was one of them a liverpudlian called Les? He was the main fixer for the Nobles arcades.

The Moto G7 power often responds to suddenly loud noises with a distinct pop.

Big Clive

I LOVED those noises! Could hear the audio compressor struggling though :( Might grab that soundtrack and spice it up a bit.

I know a couple of lads here used to work for a local company servicing all the fruit machines and arcade stuff back in the 90s. Not the most technical boffins but very much knowledgeable about the aforementioned

That's how I got these ones a long time ago. An advert in Coin Slot when the Golden Mile Centre in Blackpool was selling some off. I did what I often did back then and made an impulse purchase, drove my van from Glasgow to Blackpool, paid for them, loaded them into the van (They weigh a LOT) and then had a few days holiday wandering around Blackpool and the Pleasure Beach.

The IOM used to have loads of these Bally machines in its many arcades in the 80's.

I almost want to buy "The World's Fair" newspaper, to search in the ads for one.

Andrew Donaldson

I used to be a panel wireman building electroplating control cabinets, I loved that job, it was an art, quite complex, I got alot of compliments on my work from many companies that purchased them, made my job even more rewarding.

Awsome.

Imagine the joy and happiness that came about once wiring looms became a thing.

It's like the old jukeboxes and pinball machines.... all hand wired. Very labor intensive.

I like it a lot made to last and love the relay on the other side they all fascinated me i had a load ones all wired up love hearing them click on and off:) the other thing i love seeing was the old telephones switching in the exchange fascinated me as a kid even now it still does love to see big clive get his hands on one love to see it working . Any way love the videos as all ways keep up the good work BIG thanks to :D

Mort

There’s just something really interesting and compelling about electromechanical logic.

Chris Jeter

Love it, great to see a bit of old tech in action!

The solenoid payouts are probably the loudest.

Big Clive

Nowhere near noisy enough. Gotta love the massive noise fest of a jackpot paying out.
