Coin payout hopper teardown

Taking apart the coin payout hopper mech from a gaming machine.

The communication protocol it uses is quite interesting.  CCtalk - a single wire bidirectional serial link that can address several bits of coin handling equipment.

So that means we should burgle Wednesday to guarantee a good haul!!

I recall there was always ‘secret knowledge’ or exploits with regards to certain fruit machines. One I used regularly was that if you could not get a win with a set if ‘nudges’, but could get a pair, you must never hold if immediately given the option, as this would always pay out on three of that pair on the next spin. I’d also heard that turning machines on and off increase payout chances, but never tried that one. A video that talks about exploits would be very interesting. A side note: I was a cash control clerk for a bingo hall at one point and we emptied 43 fruit machines every Thursday. Two of those generally had 50-70% more cash in them than the others. Those two were known favourites with customers. The bingo hall made twice the amount of profit from fruit machines than actual bingo.

Until the first one snags in the mechanism and you end up with a warm chocolate slurry!

I wonder if chocolate coins would dispense?

I have often wondered about how they worked- and now I know. Very interesting. Cheers Clive.

My best guess is £100 in nice new shiny pound coins?

Fascinating to see they are using DES with this...

No greater disappointment than an empty tube style hopper when winning a hold after win.

Better get it back to the pub quickly, before they notice it's missing!
