Corned beef vs 240V

By request - the zapping of corned beef.

The smoke was extremely unpleasant this time.  It made my eyes sting for some time afterwards.

🤣

I wonder if you've considered using a variable auto-transformer ("Variac") to reduce voltage (and power) so you don't burn your meat. Also, we in 120V-land would be interested how your meat responds to the lower voltage. Then, after you finish your meat, you can have desert.

I bet that gave your air filters a workout! 😆

As a vegetarian I'm looking forward to you running out of meat based products and getting on to electrocuting broad beans, lettuce, cucumbers, pumpkins (Halloween themed idea there!), etc. Just so I don't have to you understand.

Glorious. Clive must be the first person in the world to vapourise corned beef

Forks of Death - Didn’t they appear on the John Peal Sessions back in the day ?

Rik Kershaw-Moore

i ones made a corned beef omelet did not go to well :( LOL

Mort

No. It's just not exciting enough.

Big Clive

Both the corned beef and spam were surprisingly expensive for what I'd class as processed foods.

Big Clive

highest power i saw was 2.6kw

i noticed that too.

is your oven broken Clive?

I think DC would be a really bad idea, as the chrome nastyness from the forcs would be very toxic, and with DC, it would migrate well into the beef, pretty fast! I think what Clive needs to build is a 2 stainless plate system with large flat areas like a sandwitch press for best coupling to the food! It would probably cost him a fuse or 2 though!

Clive, Didn't you get the summery at the end wrong? You said the beef was better for passing Shit-tons of current than spam, Isn't that the other way around? Just thought I'd mention that before you publish!!!

William Taylor

Maybe better probes? Maybe something like stainless grate or mesh.

Lostngone

How do you afford a tin of corned beef?

Alan King

Lol. You reminded me of the Goodies haggis hunt.

mj

Now that Haggis is off the endangered list, maybe you could hunt a few and stab 'em with your electroforks?

Whippet Gas

Maybe this would have been a good test of your HEPA filter too. How about trying an actual cow next please? Or pancakes with maple syrup.

Ymir the Frost Giant

How about a variac in line and actually see what is a good voltage to cook, rather than burn, stuff ??

Arthur Clampitt

If you pause and frame step the video, there's one frame where the power reading is mostly unobscured by smoke. There's a decimal point in there—965.9 W.

Now you need to decorate a canned ham with a high voltage Lichtenberg figure. For the holidays.

I could've sworn that the Hopi read 9.6kW just before the 2:00 mark.

Was hoping BigClive would just make the outside of the can hot and put a ground in the middle (or vice versa). Wonder if there’s any difference cooking AC vs DC and with regards to DC polarity? Might be tastier and less dry if current limited? If only I was still doing science fair projects.
