Easy and laid-back build

I really enjoyed building this replacement.  It's a simple tester I used to choose LEDs for specific prop-making projects back when gallium nitride LEDs were just becoming affordable from China, albeit usually out of factory dumpsters.

I 3D printed the case, but you can use just about any case and any suitable connector.

For those wanting to make a 3D printed one, the scripts are in the video description.

I agree. Please do more of these!

Really enjoy these project videos - and yes 3D printers are great for the project boxes I can print (and what a revelation when you print your first square hole for a component )

"since this one's 10 years out of date, we're going to treat ourselves to a new battery." Almost fell over I laughed so hard! 🤣🤣🤣

One thing with Snapon tools is that they do actually use a better steel for their forgings, which lets the sockets and wrenches be thinner.

I was just teasing a bit with the Snap-On thing. They have become a status symbol with car mechanics.

I've featured a few of the intelligent emergency lamps. There's a wide variation in circuitry.

Not trying to spam here - just want to share this. I just built Mr Carlson's USB Power Bank Stay On circuit (slightly modified for my noname power bank) with a 3D printed case, of course made in OpenSCAD. I'm much too unorganized (and shy) to make this kind of relaxing and enjoyable videos. I leave that to BC.

LCSC (not a sponsor 😛) sell lead based solder at reasonable prices. Works 10 times better than the lead free crap I bought by Conrad by accident. (Didn't read the description before I added it to shopping basket)

Just read on the Technology Connection hurricane lamp video comments that in India they have LED B22 bulbs with built-in battery backup! Google for "WIPRO 9 W Standard B22 Inverter Bulb". That would make a great video if you could source one.

I'll take for the flak being a Snap-On tool guy LOL I used to make my living with Snap-On tools, but now I use my Snap-On tools entirely for my hobby stuff and fixing up the house because I am in early retirement. Look, once their paid for you are in like Flynn!

I love waking up to a new video!

I think many educational science labs have ditched rubber in favor of silicone for Bunsen burner tubing (silicone doesn’t dry and crack like rubber tubing does, creating potential gas leaks). Those are usually nat gas or propane I think. Does butane have some unique properties that make it incompatible with silicone ?

I love the simplicity of the design to me it means less to go wrong when you need it the most , i do get the idea of data logging the current to compare brightness and so on but that would be altogether a different project this one is great for when you are building a quick project and need to test some led's in a hurry .

BTW: can't help mentioning that in reference to your bubble vid, most of that aquerium tube is PVC, not silicone. DEfinitely if it go's a lot harder when cold, it's definitely not silicone. PVC and silicone are very different beasts! I suspect that real silicone would not have worked at all well for butane, so probably just as well it was PVC!

I like the simplicity of your design. However, It would also be possible to go the opposite way with it. With an arduino, a light sensor, a smattering of support circuitry, and a light proof case you could make it such that you insert an led, close the lid (light proof) and have the arduino run through a range of current values and record the brightness as it goes. That information could be fed into a computer to create a graph of brightness by current. Thereby giving you a characteristic curve you could compare between leds. It's just a thought, I don't know how useful it would actually be.

I wonder if a momentary pushbutton switch would be more comfortable.. ?

Speaking of Chinesium .. seems Banggood has free shipping on many items lately (at least for Canada).
