Interesting dishwasher door mech

This module actually pushes the door open slightly at the end of a wash cycle to let the steam out.

I also got stumped trying to reverse engineer a PCB with masses of tiny tracks and vias that kept leading me along wrong paths.  I'd need to print it out much bigger to properly reverse engineer it.

Now I know why the door to our dishwasher door is open a bit when I get up for breakfast. We use overnight cheap electricity the dishwasher has a delay timer.

It does have the spring to take up the movement if it can't open the door.

Maybe that's why it failed, it moved so far and nothing else happened?

seen so many of these units, the wax motor will normally be fine and the board will be the cause. the spring is there to take the load once the actuator reaches the max point but also when the actuator is extended, if you try to close the door too soon after operation the spring stops the actuator being crushed, generally you cant force it shut before its ready. fun times.

12 peeps means the damn door's open!!! But Clive, the switch is disassembled. Oh well. Cheers, mate

I keep reading that as "pooper".

the wax motor works a bit like the thermostat in a car engine :)

Hi Clive! I’m glad you were able to have a play with the parts from my dishwasher. I’ll send you a photo of the door latch that goes into the lock but it’s pretty much as you expected and explained in the video. It’s also interesting to see that the lock appears to work and that the parts are not faulty, the dishwasher would not open or even beep until they swapped those parts out. I even adjusted the settings in the user interface to try and fix it. Thanks for doing this short video! I really enjoyed it.

I think the video would have been better if you had showed the part of the door which connects to this device. Our Miele opens the door but there is a small plastic arm that pushes the door out and keeps it open after the cycle. When you pull the door fully open this small arm disappears back inside the machine. I would prefer the machine condenses and drains away the moisture though instead of vent it into the kitchen so I don't agree 100% with this new dishwasher behaviour.
