Inflatable solar light (clone) with VERY used battery

A cheap clone of a fashionable LuminAID solar light that is shipped as a very compact package and then inflated to create the full diffuser.

This version is the cost-cutting minimalist version.  It actually earns extra points for using a salvaged battery.

Technically anything with a lithium cell is "inflatable" :p

No... you're confused with a flooded cell battery. :)

So, the bag fills up with light during the day when the sun is shining and lets it out during the night when it's dark. How Ingenious ;-)

Sorry to hear that. I had that light for a while before making the video and may have caused a high demand for the lights at a bad time.

I never got my Nokero light. Got with PayPal and was reimbursed. Even THEY said it's like Nokero dropped off the face of the earth. Too bad, they were nice lights.

Chuck Kirchner

inflate with helium hehehehehe

Anita Davis

Yeah, I was thinking it had probably been a holographic sticker.

That long-life wasn't a function of the battery though. OEM BL-5B batteries had a capacity of under 1000mAH compared to your average iPhone/Android that'll have 3-4000mAH. Honestly the power density was terrible compared to current batteries, the chemistry just wasn't as advanced.

I suppose the reuse of genuine Nokia BL-5B batteries (of which there were millions) is actually great recycling. We know how long they used to last - the 6310's used to last for weeks on a charge, nothing like the 'charge once a day' iPhone or Android.

I've found when the battery does eventually give out you can scavange the protection circuit from it and keep using that with another cell too. they are so worth it if you can get them

Drachnien

Is there a solar air pump to inflate it when it gets dark? 🀣 I jest but what larks could be had by concealing some of them on a sunny morning? Just me?

Mark Holder

9:56 that patch, thre was a holographic sticker in that place...(Genuine Nokia battery)

Good reuse of the battery especially if it helps bring the price down. I'd be concerned if they were using repurposed cheap Chinese prism cells but old quality cells are still quality.
