Brainless video candy

Well to be fair, YouTube asked for "shorts".

I've put a few up, but am just linking this one here.

I think the whole idea of "shorts" is a waste of time. Just something else to cater to folks with a short attention span. I want more "meat" in the videos I watch.

George Cohn

Those blowed up real good!

Russell Levine

This came up the same day some muppet posted a thing about "supercapacitors" being lower risk than batteries. As someone who has had to deal with a model where one of the capacitors in my studio flashes blew up, it was nice to see the process happen, albeit due to deliberate reverse polarity,

Ex Cathedra

I like watching the face pop off of transistors, too.

Barry Ducote

That was fun. But I expected purple fluff.

Mike Page

Yeah, it's pretty neat. I have something similar in the style of a venting gas tank.

Big Clive

lol and then I saw this: https://twitter.com/MieAC129/status/1490210759238123521?s=20&t=o21Ll311DXRSsxAwN-JheQ

I despise the concept of YouTube shorts, but, this is the best use of them I've ever seen!

Loscha

I used to put caps in every power point of my tech room at school. Then the teacher would turn up an switch on the main power and ther would be a huge bang and tons of smoke. Oh 1990 was a fun year

Simon Deards VK3FSPD

How about a Timelapse of a diode getting grilled.

Michael Gilchrest

Kablewwy yo

Just no selenium rectifiers please πŸ’©

You might want to consider finding one of these online: https://twitter.com/MieAC129/status/1490210759238123521?t=6ufeW7uUxyJQzAjJJFNEKg&s=19

I think you could do a series of what different components do when connected to 240v You've done resistors and caps, but there are plenty of other things that go bang very nicely too! One of my favourites was the old thermistors that used to be used to stabelise the old PNP 2sb series audio amplifier outputs. they make a really nice basy wump when connected across the mains!

William Taylor

I tried an electric match in a jelly baby and it was an anticlimax, so this might be a better idea.

Big Clive

I think they pop with sparks.

Big Clive

I like that. I have a similar style of device here that looks like a venting gas tank.

Big Clive

I'll have to check that out.

Big Clive

That looks good. I have one here styled like a tank of gas venting out the top.

Big Clive

I post a link to upcoming Patreon live streams.

Big Clive

I can smell this through the internet.

that guy

Glorious!

How do I find the Thurs night patreon video?

Jonathan

It exploded with a force of 1000 microfarts

I came for candy but wasn’t disappointed… 🀣

Many moons ago, A friend and I were doing a late night brainstorming session and we were building a power supply for a battery charger. it was 1989 and my friend had lots of old scrap electronics around. I mistakenly soldered in a filter cap in back wards and it wen bang. Since it had the cross stamped into the top of it , it only popped the top open and let out smoke, paper and foil. I told him I could use one of the older caps and blow a lid off an army ammo can. He said I was nuts and there was no way it would be able to do that. I search though his hoard and found a 25v 3500 uf cap and cut a mains cord an solder it to the cap. wrapped it in 20 or 30 layers of electrical tape. and wrapped the part of the flat flex mains cord with a few layers where the ammo box lid would be clamping down on it. I put the cap n the box clamped down the lid. and for extra effect buried it about a foot under the ground. Ran a heavy duty extension cord out to it and I plugged in the cord and we could hear the breaker humming in the panel nearby. Then about 10 seconds later, BOOM! and about 3 seconds we could hear the lid of the ammo box lid hit the pavement a few hundred feet away. We did this about 1am and we went out to inspect the damage and the ammo box bottom half was bowed out a bit and the hinge pins were sheared clean off. Then we saw blue lights coming see we ran back into the shop and tuned off all the lights and hid until the local police left. I purposely chose a cap that didn't have any safety vents. Oh I miss those days of causing mischief and mayhem.

When in sixth form in A level electronics I placed electrolytic capacitors in back of each banana plug blocks fed at end of bench by single pay as I was using CMOS and everyone else on TTL/555. Well another student swapped the psu leads ending in multiple explosions. Well good old Mr Wigglesworth hunted me down in my A level physics lesson who was being run by the head of department so I was exonerated but the other student was not but I wish I was there to see the explosions.

https://twitter.com/MieAC129/status/1490210759238123521?t=r5uZYF6iI9rLR51aPJ7Mdg&s=19 I assume this would be related for your shorts.

Ossi K

Clive, you might want to consider to rearrange the position of the Lettering on the Thumbnail, it's being cut-off in the overview pages (I wish I could add a screenshot here)

lImbus924

Much as I'm not a great fan of shorts" this kind of thing, at least, does lend itself to the format. I will now b e watching out for your videos in the "satisfying compilation" watchalongs I sometimes stoop to watching.

nowt

Next time, it's a tantalum under water. Pop.

Anton

Resistor roulette might be a good idea for a short

You could do a series of these with the caps inserted into things, like jelly babies, haggissisees, radishissess, toffee apples, fireworks, sherbet fountains, jesus teddies, lucky cats... a chance for a good clear-out at last!

Ymir the Frost Giant

So a new series of YT Shorts -"How does it explode?" as a successor to "Does it carbonate?"

Maybe next time try a slow motion shot if device you are recording video on has that feature ?? Nevertheless I watched it twice so maybe YT has a point on shorts ?? More advertising catch for them, and possible revenue for YT creators ?? Think your YT subs are growing so when you get to the Million mark do a Furze type celebration video and blow stuff up !!

Robert

Excellent!

Andrew Donaldson

Its a long time since I did that. I see people talking about tantalum caps. Do they explode in a different way Clive ?

Jeremy Travis

Shorts in more ways than one:-)

Mr B Shepherd

Alas no. I used to use them, but stopped.

Big Clive

Any tantalum caps?

So Destructive. What would AVE call it? Angry Pixies or something. LOL

Dave Frederick

I love when things go Boom!

I used to wire a cap across the element in our old kettle, the type that had the element that you could change, with the bakelite lid on it. Once the cap is in place, you just leave it plugged in and wait for someone to make a cup of tea. Many beltings came after this fun, but it was worth it. :)

TopEndSpoonie

Sooooo satisfying!
