Don't use the 12V charger with the vests.....
Added 2022-02-10 20:07:48 +0000 UTCDon't use the included 12V charger that comes with the vests until you have checked it out internally. There are three resistors inside which may have been intended to limit the current to the indicator LED and for the charging. But the output is connected directly to the car plug, so the only current limiting will be the cable. Not sure how much charge current will be involved if plugged in with a car charging at 14V and three flat cells at a total of 9V.

Great idea for a live stream:- use the 12v charger to charge the vest whilst wearing it. You’re doing it so we don’t have to. Lol.

2022-02-11 16:11:24 +0000 UTCOoooooh! Clive got a super-dooper version with all of those components. All I got was a single ⅛ 3.3k resistor to cover charging and the LED. Mind you, the second one is pukkah. I’ve put a photo on the community page for comparison! The ‘European’ one has a plug & car charger with good innards and the battery is sealed both ends whilst the other is ‘open’ both ends. Interesting.
2022-02-11 06:39:10 +0000 UTCIn a recent video about an illuminated safety vest there was a link to a UK ebay seller selling them off.

2022-02-11 06:05:31 +0000 UTCHave I missed something? What vests? I'm getting old, not not that old!

2022-02-11 05:52:17 +0000 UTCThe product itself is from a Netherlands company, but they've maybe been supplied alternate chargers.

2022-02-11 05:19:02 +0000 UTCThe label on the car plug power supplies I received indicates 12-24v input and states 12.6v 1A output. The output is 12.6v with a 5W load with 14.2v input. With a larger load the output does exceed the stated 1A.
2022-02-10 21:10:29 +0000 UTCWhat's the cable resistance? Could be AMPS if it's low enough.

2022-02-10 20:22:31 +0000 UTCNow I understand why they are shipping with safety glasses and a first aid kit.

2022-02-10 20:20:47 +0000 UTCYes. If you read the listing closely it does say it comes with them. My safety glasses are covered in a spattering of oil, but look new. Something leaked in storage I think! Also one of 2 had the red lights on the back. The other has none on the back. Different packaging too.

2022-02-10 20:17:34 +0000 UTCCan't edit that last comment on mobile for some reason, just to add: I got two different versions of the jacket packaging. One of them included a European mains plug (also got the UK plug) and was a sleeved package instead of a proper printed package. I wonder if it's only one of them that has the dodgy car charger?

2022-02-10 20:16:43 +0000 UTCThat's mad timing, just opened my order of three jackets. They also included 3 pairs of safety glasses and 3 first aid kits!! For £2! Anyone else get this? I had planned to immediately take them apart, but they're so bright they're great for going around the garden in the dark, so I'm keeping one intact. Must look at fixing that issue with the circuit always being on.
