Inside a mains voltage sign LED module

I didn't even know they made 120 and 240V versions of these, but when I found out I ordered some to see how they power the LEDs.

It's actually pretty neat.

I think they must be, because there must be a stabilization time for the linear regulator. Worst case of the power being applied at he peak of the sinewave would be the current being limited to something surprisingly low due to the combined LED forward voltage and the near 1000 ohms resistance. Maybe 100mA peak?

I wondered if the 2x 470R were a little bit of transient protection. If so, they would be better placed upstream of the bridge. Worst case single fault is probably one diode in the bridge going short.

Where would we be without LED's these days- such a brilliant (pun intended ) invention !

Yeah, I've featured that in the past. (In 2015) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EYE9tpv5R0

LMFAO @ 1.7 "Silly Amps" :D you make me laugh Clive... great video as always... I bought a few of these, thanks for the teardown!

Wolfie RARAR

Interesting. Thanks. ... FYI, I spent the first few minutes of the video waiting for the red & black alligator clips to short out on each other. :-)
