Frank, your 'shorts' thoughts.... (try saying that after a few advocaat's) sound like they could become 'longs'.

A SAD, the Smoke Assisted Diode. Fires only once.

Ah school, that is a while ago. Now I get it. In order to not attract too attention of the tutor in front of the class the video's have to be short. Those kids are probably not into capacitor droppers and voltage multiplier circuitry anyway. Ok keep them coming. I see an upcoming video featuring a round of resistor roulette. Or capacitor roulette? Maybe with different values of elco's back to back with series resistors and a slow AC frequency sweep to blow them all in sequence?

Just had a thought - what would it look like if you just put current through a length of solder? Maybe with a resistor if it acts too much like a short. I wonder where it would melt first...

If you look at the age distribution of tiktok users ...say, in the US ...the majority are less than 20 y.o. 'Shorts' appeal to those sneaking a look at their phones under the school desk.

I think it should work for that.

These videos are somehow unreasonably satisfying. You might want to try some film capacitors. I've seen them explode without catching fire.

Trouble with that is there are no resistors any more in Russia - the all got arrested and clinked up.

One of the car resto channels I watch (salvage rebuilds uk) often does several short 'update' videos on their cars, so each resto is covered by maybe 3-6 20 minute videos depending. Although I find that very irritating and would much rather just see a single long one, could that be something worth trying for you, Clive?

But....this means that any resistor is potentially dangerous! What if someone wanted to do something 'naughty' like blowing up the Russian parlement and needed a simple way to ignite!

I guess the same thing's true of most semiconductors - you never see a T03 that's turned to shrapnel. But some plastic packages do crack open.

Does this work for launching model rockets? Resistors should be cheaper than the igniters.

Lots of slo mo potential from overloading components...

I spotted that. It would be good to see slo mo of a resistor blowing up forcibly and maybe a whoofle.

LEDs are rubbish for blowing up. They tend to behave like an HRC fuse.

I think YouTube got a scare from the success of TikTok. Some people do want a burst of short videos rather than a long one. If I release a very long video it will get significantly less views than a shorter one.

Is this seriously what the current YT algorithm wants to see? If this kind of content makes the channel grow and generates income then you should keep doing it. I am personally more into the in depth video's. It is a bummer YT does not seem to value actual content.

There is something primordial about creating fire, it is obviously hard wired into up.
