Eggs are dangerous
Added 2021-10-28 02:40:43 +0000 UTCI had a "special moment" today. I bought a pack of four hard-boiled eggs from a local supermarket and microwaved one for 30 seconds to warm it up for eating.
When I bit into it, it exploded and sprayed a jet of superheated steam which burned my top lip and has left it red and blistered.
I think I'll stick to burgers and stuff - much safer.

2021-11-02 14:57:54 +0000 UTCYes it's dangerous to boil water in the microwave let it boil longer and add a metal spoon π₯ and it'll spray all over you...

2021-11-01 22:09:43 +0000 UTCAnother tip you can consider is not knowing the difference between weeds and plants - got my dad banned from the garden :-)

2021-10-29 10:50:13 +0000 UTCAnd that's why I have the microwave in a utility room and walk away from it when I 'm using it. Too dangerous to stand in front of.
2021-10-29 08:36:45 +0000 UTCP.s. don't avoid the boiled eggs in the future, just cut them in half, or mince them and nuke them with some butter and salt.
2021-10-29 07:27:44 +0000 UTCIn my youth, my dad and I made the mistake of microwaving hard boiled eggs... with the shell on (and he was in PMEL!) The resulting detonation blew the microwave door across the kitchen...
2021-10-29 07:26:41 +0000 UTCI just usually batch make hard boiled eggs in one of those cheapo metal egg holders from AliExpress. Just sit it in a pot of boiling water for however long it takes and then just lift out. Peel and have a few hot and put the rest of them in the fridge, once they've cooled, to eat cold later. It does involve "cooking" as such but you can arse about like using a woodgas stove (outside obviously) or a penny meths stove or whatever weird and wonderful way you can find to boil water! :)

2021-10-29 04:15:30 +0000 UTCThis is not the NASCAR moment we all signed up for. Hope it's healing well, and that the various esteemed gentlemen who occasionally appear on-channel aren't giving you too much shit over it.

2021-10-28 22:59:59 +0000 UTCThis is exactly why I'm banned from using the microwave. I'm banned from using any kitchen appliance actually. My curiosity does have its advantages.....

2021-10-28 22:33:53 +0000 UTCMicrowave a boiled egg π³really?? Is that a thing? Always ate cold. Reminds me of a guy who put a ready meal curry into an industrial microwave for far too long. He took it out and put a spoon in to stir. As soon as the spoon touched the curry the meal exploded covering his face in hot food π―

2021-10-28 17:56:26 +0000 UTCMilky coffee will do the same, the bottom gets super heated and when you move it the hot bit rises very quickly and, well you can guess the rest. A glass rod in the mug is suppose to stop this happening.
2021-10-28 16:47:49 +0000 UTCThings like eggs and potatoes will explode. Poke a few little holes before microwaving to reduce the chances of that happening. Personally for hard boiled eggs I just cut them in half first as the steam seems to mostly build up between the yolk and the albumen.

2021-10-28 10:43:51 +0000 UTCSorry to hear of the eggblast ... A short but pleasing tale of AliExpress, who I gather you had a minor issue with; I asked you if it were possible to get the 0.5Hz LEDs for the HexaPuter in quantities of less than 5000 ... eventually, my dimly-lit brain realised that asking AliExpress was a more appropriate idea. Did so, and after telling me that their minimum production run was 3000 pcs, they kindly offered me what they had left - 150 pcs white, 152 blue and 242 green, which duly arrived yesterday. Good service, if you catch the right people ...
2021-10-28 10:38:31 +0000 UTCHope it heals quickly big man! Hearing storeis about boiled eggs takes me back to the late 90's when my firends and I worked a student summer holiday in the egg factory on the edge of Loanhead (outside Edinburgh.) Myself and Al were in the boiled egg dept. (which either went to be used for prepared salads or to be pickled). The rejected boiled eggs (broken ones) went next door to our friend Chris who was in the Egg Mayonaise Dept. and our other friend Forest was in the pre pack Scrambled Egg Dept. The money was good at the time but it was not pleasant work. Gave us a lot of respect for the people that worked there full time to support thier families.
2021-10-28 10:10:31 +0000 UTCSome of my best microwave explosions involve eggs. Almost as much fun as CDs!

2021-10-28 08:52:08 +0000 UTCHad a similar experience with Big Soups from Heinz. The chicken ones seem to be prone to explosions. Usually they happen during heating, but once I had one explode during the mid-heat stirring with a spoon. I was picking bits of chicken off my face, off the walls and ceiling, and bizarrely behind my head.
2021-10-28 08:50:47 +0000 UTCpop tarts and egg's the world is a dangerous place young Clive sky walker, surprised you were, hope it wasn't to bad an experience.
2021-10-28 08:12:27 +0000 UTCLike potatoes... Always poke them before microwaving. *Anything* in a microwave must be able to vent and not be in an enclosed container. Eggs are no different. Sorry for the bad experience.

2021-10-28 08:05:17 +0000 UTCI did know you can't microwave hard boiled eggs and I never buy them Clive. I remember when I had a gadget that you could pot eggs in in a microwave made of plastic and you had to put a small measure of water in it to cook them but it was a lot of messing around and you still had to cook them anyway. Stick to Scotch eggs if you like them. They can be microwaved.

2021-10-28 07:26:50 +0000 UTCI once microwaved a portion of curry I had made the day before, took the bowl out of the microwave and was about to pick up a chunk of meat from it with a fork to test the temperature, when the very chunk of meat I was about to pick up exploded. I figured it was hot enough, put it on my plate along with the freshly cooked rice and gave it a few more minutes to cool. I guess I had a narrow escape from a similar experience to yours. I don't trust eggs, they don't even have the decency to explode before you put them in your mouth! I'm glad I follow a vegan diet not to get away from spiteful eggs.
Dr Andy Hill
2021-10-28 07:24:59 +0000 UTCOh Clive, I'm so sorry you learned the hard way, eggs in sold form are spiteful. Put a raw whole egg in your microwave and watch the fantastic explosion. It seems the hard-boiled eggs you bought were still soft in the middle? I hope your lip heals soon and isn't too painful. You have sympathy from a previous egg victim.
2021-10-28 07:04:41 +0000 UTCConsider putting two forks in it and heat the egg with 240V instead

2021-10-28 05:52:00 +0000 UTCThis do this PLEASE
Michael Wellman
2021-10-28 05:46:00 +0000 UTCI thought everyone knew not to do that, you have to cut them because the white and yoke not only heat deferentially, but the white is a void that fills with steam, it's similar with potatoes as the center heats faster for to water concentration and the steam can not escape so you poke it with a fork or knife. Although I don't think hard boiled eggs are sold by themselves in the states so that's interesting
Michael Wellman
2021-10-28 05:45:03 +0000 UTCI did that years ago. After I inserted the knife to cut it, it exploded violently.

2021-10-28 05:38:22 +0000 UTCYeah... stick to burgers and stuff and spam.
2021-10-28 05:24:23 +0000 UTCHeat an apple in a microwave for 30 seconds then cut into it, wear a face shield! Anything with an imperious skin will do this in a microwave.

2021-10-28 05:09:29 +0000 UTCUser error perhaps . Better off putting the whole chicken in there . lol kidding hope you didn't burn yourself to much. No pudding for you . Get some liquid into lungs
2021-10-28 04:54:00 +0000 UTCI've had that sort of "special moment" too. I'd soft-boiled an egg a bit softer than I liked and so I put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. Then I poked it with a fork, and very soon had a faceful of egg which, thankfully, cooled as it sprayed in my direction. (Also I was wearing glasses.)

2021-10-28 04:33:59 +0000 UTCYou had so many alternative choices, the danger forks, the woofler, the tesla coil, etc. You do have a microwave cannon don't you? You must have one somewhere.

2021-10-28 04:01:01 +0000 UTCYou should have given it 45 seconds, then it could have exploded inside the microwave, where all good explosions should happen! Had a similar thing happen to me once with a chicken snitsel thing with cheese stuff in it, pressed the knife into it and it exploded and burned my left hand!!!

2021-10-28 02:50:54 +0000 UTCOMG - all those high voltage and craft knife japes and it has to be a humble egg in your face! If it makes you feel any better, back in March I put a mug of steaming hot black coffee on the arm of my armchair and then sat down, followed by the mug. Because it was an armchair the coffee had nowhere to go except round my back end. Not the place to have a 6" diameter burn. Had to have 6 weeks off work.
