A bigger version of the LED fireplace light

I've looked at a smaller version of this before, but it was while travelling with work.

This unit is bigger and the video goes into more detail.

Absolutely mesmerizing. Very good imitation of the real thing. I would order one ASAP ... except ... I have a real fireplace.

I wonder if some sort of comically shaped large mylar glitter could be attached for a humorous effect on the flame pattern.

I think it was just well supported in the packaging by the housing.

That is actual glass in the front, which I presume arrived safely shipped in polyfoam?

Really nice effect but you can't tease about a plasma themed hack and not do it. 😁 I know that now I'd like to see it made into a rgb "plasma containment fireplace"

Pierre

The fireglow lamps and disks? I think an old electric fireplace here has them in it.

Big Clive

Impressive but simple effect

Two thoughts came to mind when I saw this. The first came from my first job in a Department Store when I was 15 years of age. I think it was Belling who made electric fires which had a 3 pin amber bulb and a pin assembly which held a little reflector over the bulb. The heat of the bulb turned the reflector by the heat rising. It also had a couple of wire wound bars for actual heat. You could turn the heating elements off if you wanted to and just watch the effect of the bulbs. The second thought came from when I was studying sheet metal work and the development of patterns. Drawing a flat shape of sheet metal out when you stretched it so the elliptical holes became round allowing a circular bar to go through the middle. My last thought is I could sit one of these on my desk and convince myself I am not cold when I really am.

I have the smaller version you reviewed previously, I designed and 3D printed a 18650 holder to replace the need for two "C" cell batteries. It is a nice effect, achieved with a relatively simple design. - Mister Meaargee

The tessellated mylar shape is clever, no wastage.

strangely enough... i was thinking it might work well for that... I'm replacing an old gas heater with a gas fired blown-air heater when I get chance .. and that leaves me a space to fill.

Superb - the flames really do dance! I agree about using it as the basis for 'projects' - one idea would be to have the mylar fins in the shape of ghosts and goulies. No, not THAT sort! I mean the sort that goes bump in the night... oh dear, This strongly reminds me of an old electric heater I used to spend hours watching as a kid. The effect seems so similar but the tech was very different IIRC. That one's 'fans' were rotated by the heat coming from mains voltage red light bulbs, and the dancing flames were shadows instead of reflections. No lenticular screens then I suppose, or they were expensive. [Autocorrect insists that should be testicular... no comment!] One of these would be great (and safe) in a camper van alongside one of those diesel heaters. Ah, those lovely fumes...
