The mysterious soldering iron

It's a portable soldering iron that uses a common vaping power supply and the USB style soldering tips.

Back in the 80's and 90's when I was in the field, I used to carry a Weller butane powered soldering iron that I used all of the time. Always worked and ALWAYS carried a few butane refill canisters. The great thing was that no batteries or power needed to use.

2021-11-21 06:30:34 +0000 UTCIt does look like it. I'd guess the 40W rating is based on a specific heater resistance if it's going straight across a lithium cell that could vary between 3 to 4.2V.

2021-11-21 06:29:40 +0000 UTCThe base looks like a Jomo tech lite 40 vaping device. 1.6 ohm is a typical value of coil for mouth to lung vaping, guess that is why they designed the tip to be that value, soit would work with a standard vaping device.
