Xmas ripple projector?

I suppose a better description of this would be "Winter" outdoor ripple projector, since it's best suited to the darker months of the year.

Not bad.   Serious attempt at circuit design and a good visual effect.

It might be worth buying some modern transistors like BC547 from Rapid Electronics or CPC. That way you'll get modern and predictable characteristics. But the Joule Thief is very tolerant of a wide range of components.

Big Clive

Hi Big Clive, Another thing along with many that I would like take apart and modify in a variety of things. On another point, I'm going to build your Joule Thief but looking through all the transistors that I have from the old man's stocks but although there are BC prefixed transistors they all have heat sinks on them. So are there any other UK/European transistors that would work? I also have some reed switches (9 of them) that are 8cm overall length, 5cm glass length & Β½ cm diameter. They seem rather large and seem to be the sort things that would be used in things like pinball machines and the like. If they are of any use to you just say and I can post to you from North Wales.

Yes - A magnets can be sneaky sometimes. They end up in the strangest places.

I hope you make a new LED board for that projector! and see what other effects you can make with it.

Aw, c'mon, if you're here, you're at least a medium nerd.

Yes I like the effect, might get one for indoors. Did I mention I'm a light nerd?

I've lost too many small tools whilst reaching over my gadget mountain. But I did find my lost chess piece the other day, as the magnetic base had attached itself to a metal frame which had broken its fall, I'd been crawling around the floor for days searching for it.

you and me both!

I'm going to need to see photos of this gadget mountain you speak of πŸ˜†

I vote use 4 color changing LEDs with this effect.

reminds me of the argos one you did quite a while ago .. i managed to get one of those (and my son won't let me have it back!)
