Inside the long thin 3V LED filaments

Having seen these on a modelling channel I thought I'd get some to explore.

If you want some I'd recommend buying them from the listing in the description soon.  When I link to specific sellers they tend to ramp the price up with demand.

The longest ones in that listing are the 300mm (12") version.

I would think the reason the LEDs are side emitting is becase

I can think of some fun analogue and digital clocks one could build.

I can see a lot of sparkle dog fursuiters using these. They'd make for some very interesting glowy markings. It'll be nice to see what people have done when the furry conventions get going again properly once covid is out of the way.

I came across a 1200mm 24v one but dont have a good reason to buy it.... yet.

I've just ordered some to have a play with. £4.11 for 5 x 300 mm. All i've got to do now is think of a use for them!

Apparently the future is Orange. Well it was in the past anyway.

Whippet Gas

Does this mean that the future of good intensity red LEDs is not very bright?

Unfortunately all the good solvents are hard to get here on the island due to shipping red tape.

I know about that. When I unpaused the recording it paused again. I didn't realize until after and had to unpause it properly and redo that bit.

Just to let you know there's a wee glitch in the video where you switch to the red filament at about the 6 min mark.

Methylene chloride or perchloroethylene may be worth a try for dissolving the silicone - google for "Silicone - Chemical Resistance" and look for The Engineering ToolBox link.
