LED beanie from Poundland

Now I'm not going to say this is perfect, but it has its uses.  It's definitely not going to replace my favourite head torch or keychain light.

I like their chunky and reckless USB connector.

YouTube does often block links.

Big Clive

Not without adding more circuitry or a custom programmed microcontroller.

Hi there, can these be hacked so it's just on at full power or off?

I found these on Amazon a few years ago and bought two as they were cheap then. Used one a little bit but haven't really used it to it's potential, second was as a spare.

Keith Pawson

I had posted a link - wonder if that got blocked somehow?

Todd Sharp

No worries. I tried again. 🙂

YouTube has been doing lots of weird things recently. It sometimes happens.

Big Clive

Weird - my comment on that post from yesterday disappeared from YouTube.

Love it, thinking to make a few usb plug pcbs, not seen that done before.

Some lady was pitching these on Shark tank and got 200k for them…

Michael Gilchrest

there's no data connection on the pins so that's not a concern

Drachnien

Different chip. I wonder if the number is just a date code for manufacture.

I got one of those for Christmas I haven't gotten around to using it yet. I did notice the USB connector tho and I'm not sure what to think about it. I'm not going to plug it in to my computer that's for sure.

🤔 Hmm.. That beanie looks exactly like the ones sold in our “Kvickly” supermarkets in Denmark. (coop) I’ll look for it later today. I believe the latest version also includes built-in bluetooth headphones/speakers.

The strobe on this one is less aggressive than usual, which gets it huge plus from me.

The perfect fancy dress accessory if you want to go as a Minion.

In Canada and northern Michigan that is called a toque (pronounced tuke). In lower Michigan it is called a knit hat or cap. In Kentucky it is called a toboggan, which is the name for a type of sled everywhere else.

Only as effective as the original white LEDs were at doing the same thing. You'd need a bit of power and careful arrangement of the LEDs to obfuscate the wearers face.

Jeremy Impson

I had a colleague who had a cap with white LEDs which he said he swapped out with IR illuminator LEDs which (he maintained) flooded out CCTV cameras to foil ‘the man’ and his ubiquitous facial recognition. Feasible?
