Miracle heater teardown

It appears that the latest marketing thing is pushing these fairly common heaters as being so efficient that they can heat your whole house for pennies.
In reality an electric heater is 100% efficient at converting electricity to heat regardless of the power, so the cost for a given amount of heat will be the same. And electricity isn't the most economical way to heat your home.

I suppose it makes sense to intercept them in the supply chain. Hopefully they won't get too militant and start seizing Chinese control modules too.

Did you see that customs have started confiscating the miracle heaters for dangerous construction issues that cause live parts to be exposed?

I just rewatched this video, as I need something in my shed, instead of the 400/800 watt oil filled aldi radiator, which seems to do 800watts and then cuts off. My shed is really well insulated, so i thought about getting one of these to just stave off the real cold come winter. Thanks for your really good teardown and review- I am going to get one to see if it will work for me at jus a ten or fifteen quid jobby.

The Federal Trade Commission needs to send these shysters a message that it's deceptive advertising to claim that these cubes less than a foot on each side can "heat (or cool) a room in minutes!" Bald faced lies. The elimination of burning of fossil fuels is going to eventually eliminate coal, oil and gas from heating homes. This is mandatory to halt global warming. Homes will have to be better insulated and electric power or hydrogen will have to be used for heating.

It would be perfect for a small space like that.

I like the infrared heaters. Instant and very pleasant warmth. Maybe I should make a video about that. I used to work under a 500W halogen lamp in winter and it was like working in the sunshine.

A cheap electronic device with a blue LED display that *isn't* bright enough to operate the landing deck of an aircraft carrier?
Is that even legal?

I wonder if the 1.5K resistor mentioned at 9:48 was originally meant to be a switch so you could turn the "nightlight" on and off separately?

I didn’t know how PTC heaters worked. That was worth the entire video for me. Was definitely unaware the metal fins were energized. Great information thanks.

I've got one of these in my caravan. Ideal application for it.

Radiative heaters aim to heat you and not the air.

That's way more complicated than I expected. I thought it would be like a hairdryer, where the element operates as a high power dropper resistor for a DC motor. I guess the ceramic elements are too low resistance for that but I'm not too sure what advantage they do have. Just size, perhaps ? I suppose hairdryers don't usually have a thermostat or timer.

While I totally agree about the (above) 100% efficiency, I think they may achieve something by being small, cheap and very localised. This encourages you to heat just your body and not the whole room. But a sweater is even better.

On the black unit, the soldered-in switch failed to protect the removable fuse?

I’ve seen lots of ads for them popping up recently. They seem to be the new miracle boxes replacing the cooling ones. I suppose it can be a year round scam now, overpriced miracle evaporative coolers in warm weather, overpriced miracle ceramic heaters once it gets cold.
