Fascinating "fracking" accident survival story

A good demonstration of step potential.

Circa 2014 or so I was running the rotisserie on my grill, plugged into an extension cord (inside) that had a built-in GFCI. It started raining so I went out to check on the grill but I was wearing flip-flips (it was in southern California in late spring.) My patio there would retain a puddle of water and I got shocked between my legs and it made me jump off the ground. The GFCI didn't pop, presumably because I shorted live and neutral through high resistance water, not to ground? It was nothing like that guy experienced though but it seriously scared me.

Martel DuVigneaud

Seriously who first suggested jumper cables. A plastic clamp with only a 1 mm electrode would be much better. But even with that I’m never supporting or buying this type of art. I don’t want someone risking their life for my enjoyment.

You can be brought back from electrocution. But yes if you don’t die it’s not electrocution. In firstaid group electrocution like lightning is one of the only situations where you treat people with no pulse first. Because you actually have a chance to bring them back.

That was a sobering watch - he's one lucky bastard. I had a healthy respect for electricity before, even more so now.

lucky,but still a dumb-ass

In Australian legal & medical terminology you don't survive electrocution, death is the main criteria for the classification of electrocution.

Indeed. I mean, he has just traumatised his wife and children as well, and then he proceeds to be cavalier about his wife getting upset when he starts again („gotta get back in the saddle“)

Andreas Schuderer

Lucky Man, but like others, I think his attitude stinks. Why would anyone do anything like this without proper safety precautions?

Dr Andy Hill

wow that entire story is so american...
