Interesting NFC flashing stickers

These tiny little stickers intended for fingernails have an LED and circuitry that powers it when placed in the vicinity of an NFC coil.

The original intended applications is to flash nail art when a phone is being held, but they potentially have other testing uses too.

I'd say I'm sorry for that. But I'd be a liar. :)

The question has to be asked - how much current can you pass through these before your get...a good fingerbang?

Last one. Details section has interesting info & various antenna layouts. https://m.alibaba.com/product/1600092361652/Custom-Free-Sample-Long-Range-Passive.html

BTW: apparently these operate at 13.56MHz. Others are 860-960MHz.

I'll check those out.

Clive, here are the 2 types I know of (N2/N3): https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005001312066376.html https://m.aliexpress.com/item/4001039178826.html

I couldn't find transponder versions of the nail stickers. Just rolls of bigger ones.

Big Clive

cool !

I misread that as NFT at first and was like "oh no what now" :p Interesting though - makes you wonder whats going on. Is it acting as a tank circit, are the capacitors offsetting the voltage like in a multivibrator etc...

Raven Luni

Ahh, yes, hadn't thought of that. Perhaps just protecting the cards in the wallet is best. Thanks for all your hard work on these videos.

It must just be the matching of the frequencies for efficient operation of such a small coil.

You could make an alarm that is triggered by a strong oscillating magnetic field. It might also go off as you walked through the security barriers at shop entrances though.

Is the reason it doesn't work with Qi etc. resonance?

Now you made me buy a few of these...

I picked up a set of these from Adafruit at one point. They really do work well. Their profile fits a popscicle stick very well, so I stuck them onto some sticks and gave a couple to friends of mine. Later when I got a laser cutter I engraved "RFID Detector Stick" on one as a first project. Dangerous Things sells a credit-card-sized version of these that also works on 125 kHz. It works very well and lights up especially brightly when held to a door access controller vs. a phone. https://dangerousthings.com/product/rdc/

Would it be possible to create something similar that would alert you when somebody tries to scan your wallet in your pocket? I know you can prevent your cards being scanned, I'd just like to catch them at it so I can take them somewhere quiet and show them the error of their ways.... A tip for anyone involved with Venues/Clubs etc that are affected by phone thieves... Using bags left unclaimed from the cloakroom, dust the contents with UV security powder (the stuff that doesnt wash off) leave the bags in places people like to stash their bags around the venue and install a UV light at the exits. the doorstaff can easily and quickly check peoples hands as they walk out. We caught 4 thieves the first night! They were previously impossible to catch as they were long gone before anyone reported their phone missing. The UV light in the entrance now scares them off.

Can you take a look at the other NFC nail decals? I've seen some that can perform single programmed functions when triggered, such as acting like a key fob.

Mike Cowen

That's wild. Thanks Big Clive.
