Sealed fridge/freezer defrost thermostat

The most interesting thing about this module is the way it's been sealed to make it waterproof.

I added a bit onto the end of the video to show how the thermal fuses work in greater detail.  The spiky washer is apparently a sliding contact.

It may actually be worth making a video dedicated purely to the operation of the thermal fuses.

Hot gas defrost. I think it adds too much complexity to a standard fridge. I have a dehumidifier here that uses it and makes that distinctive noise. We also used it on the supermarket systems on a larger scale.

I'm surprised fridge manufacturers don't use a refrigerant gas reversing valve instead of a heater, unless it adds too much to the manufacturing cost. I had a dehumidifier many years ago that had one, which had very short defrost cycles. It would make a distinct "shhh" sound at the start of the defrost cycle and then return to dehumidifying a minute or two later. I think our fridge freezer spends about 30 minutes performing its daily defrost cycle while drawing around 400 watts running its heating elements.

There should have been a dragon in the fuse as well - you must have chased it away.

The noise of those clicking metal disks takes me back to the 1990s when you'd need to remove corrosion from a Commodore 64 or Atari Joystick/Joypad setup.

Nope no porn for me for pb302 but most people don't realise that the Google search get manipulated by your ISP like sky,BT and Talk talk. I wonder how many people know this fact?

Interesting I have changed so many I assumed it to melt a solder blob on some exotic alloys with a spring. Something new so plan to cut one appart

White powder? Demonetised lol

I remember when I worked at an Appliance repair business, I would see tons of these!

Thanks for explaining what is in a thermal fuse. As an aside, the 10 ohm PTC thermistor on my fridge failed open circuit. It runs the start winding on the compressor for a short time. A standard part from Germany. A 5€ repair.

so i have 30 if anybody wants them.

My last 30 medical 18650 packs Had one each. the packs each had 12 cells in them. this fuse was between the - pole and the pcb board of the BMS.
