Some of the promised trashed travel-content

This was supposed to be a glorious revisit to a fond childhood memory.

It really didn't turn out that way.

Fray Bentos pies have gone through several changes of owner over the years, and seem to have gone downhill since the Baxters acquisition. At least this one didn't contain pieces of plastic (well, not noticeably). Wikipedia says they're made in Fochabers (but apply the usual caution).

I don’t think they ever had much meat, but it does seem to have reduced further nowadays.

My mom still bakes a kate and sidney pie from time to time. I never cared for them myself but being in the house where it's made... the cleaning process for kidneys would make the entire house smell like a filthy truck stop bathroom. That turns you off them quick.

“We’ll open it up and see what’s inside”. Based on your typical video, I was also expecting a schematic. :-)

Definitely a lot more watery looking than when I was a student 20 years ago. I used to also get canned chicken curry. I remember both had chunky pieces of meat. They didn't require refrigeration until opening, a big advantage when sharing a small fridge between several house mates.

I remember Spam from the 70's and 80's. I purchased a tin a few months ago, and I was seriously disappointed. it was flavourless and flaccid.

Yes, just like everyone else in the UK fond memories and instant brand recognition, but they went downhill fast as soon as PL started selling them for £1 a few years ago. I even wonder if they commissioned 'special recipes' from FB to achieve that price point. On a brighter note, new video evidence shows that Mr. Bun Bun lives again, and now has a very big stick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jexFvTZW2-A

If you think that's disappointing, try a Vesta curry. That will kill any nostalgia stone dead.

Me too. Burned on top, soggy on bottom. Worse than school dinners.

The cat food pouches I give to our moggies has more meat than that, although the contents do look suspiciously alike....
