Different space - different sound

I filmed this in an improvised studio area, so it will sound very different and also have a different visual "feel".  Let me know what you think.

Different space - different sound

Comments

Your fundamental is on the low end but that's a minor part of vocal power and intelligibility.

Mike Page

The lighting was a linear strip just behind the camera.

Big Clive

The unfortunate bit being that my voice is mainly problem frequencies.

Big Clive

The microphone is the one in the phone I recorded with. I may take my usual bench recording phone with me next time for more predictable zooming. These things run out of battery before juice so super-technical "bladerunner" kids might boost the lithium cell and vape the residual liquid before scavenging the cell.

Big Clive

A friend has a remote controlled aircraft habit, and was delighted to hear what was in these things. I believe he has told his club. He has found quite a few so perhaps you are right about the reason for there being fewer sticks than packages. Sound was indeed a little boomy, but not enough to bother me. The bottom of the screen appeared darker than the top, so to me it appeared that the view was closer at the top than the bottom, but that might just be the way my brain interprets things. (Images of moon craters and river deltas often appear inverted, high for low, to me) Dyslexic brain I guess.

Jim Hewlett

The sound was fixable, mostly LF resonance. (Remember kids - always cut the problem frequencies, don't just boost those you think you want.)

Mike Page

Sounds and looks good clive. Perhaps you could have done the "moist" test. 😁

I've already found about 25 of these when out cycling on my ebike and as I'm out cycling several times a week I'm sure I'll find more especially if I'm looking for them. The highest density of them is on the slow commute roads into and out of town where there is a high density of people and zero pedestrians and also no street cleaning as you'd get in a town center, Obviously I don't cycle on these roads in the morning rush. All but a couple of the batteries had more than 3V in them and I'm left wondering what I'll do with them all. Maybe a large power bank or powering a torch or something similar.

Russell Couper

Hmm, I wonder how many of these you'd need to power a DIY e-bike? Now that would be taking something very anti-social and turning its waste into something very socially handy.

Jon Knight

Audio and video seem fine here (sitting in my flat watching it on a laptop). And handy advice too - top job that man!

Jon Knight

The sound EQ is a little different, a touch heavier on the mid-low range (or lighter on the mid-high but not highest range?). It is fine as it is, but if you wanted to 'adjust' it, try placing the mike further away from your mouth and also from any walls etc. Your note about dogs picking these up is frightening and should be broadcast. Also, young kids could pick them up and try to smoke them, which is also very disturbing. Just imagine if people threw half-smoked ciggies away. Same thing - how to get your underage fix.

Ymir the Frost Giant

I considered this, but then considered that one person had this in their mouth as compared to thousands of people using the same coffee shop cups and bar glasses. That's why I recommend sterilising the mouth components if considering actually refilling them.

Big Clive

Be careful picking up these things in the street, you don't what the original use may have with respect to illnesses

Dampening Please ,,,, Big Boomey Voice in an itty bitty living space... It does not work For Hi qaul headphones your TOO CLEAR. Thank You

It does need a bit of sound dampening.

Big Clive

Hi Clive, I'm new here, and I like the new space, I would like to say that it "sounds" like you could use a bit of sound dampening material, but still sounded nice.

Sound was a tad boomy even taking into account I wore today's boomy headphones.

Andrew Donaldson

The sound was okay; a bit on the boomy side compared to your regular spot but not as bad as some of the other impromptu spaces where I had to turn down my subwoofer to stand a chance at understanding you.
