Test Patreon stream from Edinburgh

I'm calling this a test stream because there's no guarantee it isn't going to turn into a buffer-fest.

There's no good 4G connectivity and of the two wifi networks available, one is for university students only, and the other open one may be a bit unpredictable.

MAC's are easy to spoof. Contrary to popular belief, MAC addresses are not unique. Manufacturers are know to reuse MAC addresses, Duplicate MAC addresses are not an issue unless they end up on the same LAN, and the likelihood of 2 devices with the same MAC ending up on the same network is slim, although not unheard of. I recently salvaged some IP phones from ewaste and 1 had a not on it stating "duplicate MAC."

It looks very much like the one on the corner of Cowgate just up from the Cow in the wall, if so, then I've stopped in there as it also becomes a Youth Hostel for the summer.

The students aren't here at the moment and it is linked to mac addresses that have to be registered to a student account.

Big Clive

You're not wrong at all... but it may be linked to a hardware address (MAC), so it might not be possible. But definitely worth a try :-D

Students are pretty easy to bribe. Usually a pint or two of whatever swill the uni bar has on tap is worth at least a wifi password :) Sometimes straight economics is more effective than fancy technology solutions (did I really just say that? I'll get my coat!)

Lower Earth Orbit, LEO link.

Sometimes the student connections are pretty good… we shall see.

Rob Googe

Heh heh. buffer fest !

Jeff Larson

It's all good!

The Bavarian October Buffer-fest.

Frank

A buffer-fest sounds like a huge buffet

Not good enough. I demand you get Starlink to satisfy your Patreons. 🤣 Joking aside, it's evident you are relishing the opportunity to do your thing in Edinburgh, so I'm sure all of us are happy that you are happy actually working at something you love.

Steve Pritchard

So you'll be talking to yourself.
