Uncharitable Nokero clone

I made a video about the original Nokero light about two years ago, and unfortunately may have caused them supply issues by releasing it during the pandemic.

I deliberately avoided making a video about this unscrupulous clone, but since they seem harder to get now that they can't cash in on the publicity surrounding the real thing, they seem to be harder to find now.

I think Nokero may be on hiatus at the moment due to supply difficulties, so I wouldn't recommend trying to buy one of their original lights unless you can confirm availability in advance.

The original video is linked in the YouTube description.

Technically speaking it might have been viable to use a double pole switch and have one side switching power and the other selecting between two inductors.

Big Clive

Nani, the reason is that the single LED needs less power than the six. (Although I guess they could also add a resistor. But that costs money.) What Clive was trying to say is that the two sides should have a different inductor value so that it would not attempt to drive the single LED with the same power as the six.

Was half expecting it to start blinking the SOS sequence when Clive pressed the switch a few times

PieFloater

I don't understand why they didn't just switch the LEDs and only use one chip and inductor. Very strange.

What if we lend BigClive out to China to fix their clone designs...

I guess, charitable or not, even the crappy light is a boon compared to a kerosene lamp. Better that than nothing, and building them cheap and accessible is the way they should be built. The problem is that it probably won't deliver as much light and/or for a long time (how long/bright is it actually?). One could do a brutally simple one (though possibly not cheaper), with 3 cells in series and resistors to limit the voltage.
