Simple scavenged component project

This is just a fun, but still very useful, project that uses scavenged components to create a backup "comfort" light source for use in very dark areas or during power outages.  There's no circuit board and really just a diode and resistor, neither of which is critical.

You could make one from two failed solar garden lights if their solar panels and batteries were still in reasonable condition.  The extreme efficiency of LEDs at low current levels mean the circuit will provide a soft glow even after several stormy days with no sunlight at all.

That's fun. Thanks Big Clive.

Nice ! I too have tons of those 1n4007 I bought like 1k of them years ago .

There is, but it requires an extra transistor. This version was the simplest possible for 24/7 glow.

Wasn't there a really easy way to wire this setup so that the solar panel was the dusk sensor? I thought most solar lights would turn off the leds when they were outputting power to the batteries. I have a few solar lights that i need to rebuild. The solar panel has turned white again and some of the wires inside have failed.
