"Vintage" fan based aroma unit

I bought one of these a VERY long time ago to see how it worked, but decided to make a video about one when I discovered it being sold on eBay as a used unit.

The circuitry is quite interesting, because it appears to use a dedicated chip for timing the fan operation from a very low supply voltage.

Yeah, it's really low voltage for a typical IC.

Vintage? Shoot, these are THAT old..

The chip would have to be fairly special to run from 1 to 1.5V.

I really should pause to actually read the text on the PCB properly. My eyes are drawn straight to the components.

At first glance I'll guess a vintage ozone generator. I think I may have seen that video.

Big Clive

I think a mixture of durian and maybe surstromming fish.

04 being vintage makes me feel old :(. I don't like it. I'm not old. Not inside my head anyway.

Just to the right of the date is a circle with Pb crossed out indicating that there is NO lead in the construction- would that apply to the solder ? if so can you test it? (is there a test?) curious after you said about the battery contacts probably being good old lead solder. (btw I have mahoosive stocks of lead solder- enough to last me out!!lol)

Let's make a "Vintage" Patreon based aroma unit! We're all Patreons! XD #scnr

I’d be guessing the B suffix on some of those labels is a hint that the circuit diagram had a bar over the signal name, ie it’s active low. (Doesn’t look like it’s big enough to have an A side and B side circuit :-) )

On the subject of vintage kit, you may be interested in this teardown/repair on YT https://youtu.be/xJguF_zdEN0 I'll not say what the item is, as that will spoil the fun guessing.

Maybe replace the liquid with Durian juice and leave it behind the toilet at June's house.

Jeff Larson

Isnt the date in the top corner of the board?
