My favourite style of light just got better

It's rare that I get so enthusiastic about a light, but when your favourite daily use LED light gets an upgrade, it's hard to be disappointed.

In this awkward era of possible power outages, this is the light you want for comfort and functionality.  Best of all, it's widely available, affordable and seems to be compliant enough to be sold in high street stores.

Well, at that price I couldn't say no, so I have one on its way now. It'll probably take 2 months to get here, but that's AliExpress for ya! I think the self-lowering feature would drive me nuts so I'd be OK if it didn't have that. I'll definitely take it apart and see how big the battery is, though!

Quite amusing that they've put it on the model head upside down. There do seem to be many variants of this light. They often have lower capacity cells and lack some functions like the self lowering from full to half power over time.

I couldn't find these on Amazon or eBay in the US, but I did find something that looks nearly identical on AliExpress for $4.15: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804529030863.html

The microcontroller controls intensity by pulse width modulating for all levels.

When I used to run, what I valued was brightness vs battery life. Back then some of the headtorches were so feeble as to be useless. I never ran at night without one because slipping in dog crap or twisting an ankle on misjudged kerb is not nice.

You sounded genuinely surprised and pleased by this little gem. It must've been a while since you've seen something you really like.

That little bodged heatsink is odd. They must've noticed a bit of a heat issue? All the more reason to splat out a resistor. :)

Core Blimey!

Just bought this: https://www.toolstoreuk.co.uk/core-lighting-clh200-rechargeable-head-torch-200-lumens/p19678 Hope it's the version you reviewed!

Curious. Is the PWM being controlled by the MCU? I have a headlamp like the older one here and I think you did a dive on it a while back too. I really like it and the two others I ordered. I think I prefer the little black one because it's slim, rechargeable and very useful for footing while doing my late year early sunset deliveries. An yes! May we never need the very thing that annoys us - The dreaded SOS BS.

Gosh Big Clive. In my former life, that is a little more than a decade ago. I used to be a commercial producer making commercials for various clients. Producing, lighting, shooting, editing, sound and the like even with crews back in the days. I was watching this and immediately thought that you must have been approached by various firms for instructional or training representation. I think you'd be great, especially with knowledgeable types in writing and presentation. You're a great presenter. Easy to listen to and understand on many levels. Your background too would be an addition to the production values for sure. Just popped in my head - Sorry. A couple of Bourbons for me. LOL

What a bright idea!
