Wee baby IKEA single port USB power supply

This is IKEA's smallest USB charger, which has a different shape depending on the type of plug it has.

As you can probably guess, the design is good and even managed to throw in a few surprises.

I think they've just aimed at making this version compact and cheap for powering things like lights.

Big Clive

Seems like a lot of effort for such a low powered output. I’m sure they charged enough for it that making it capable of 2-3 amps wouldn’t have changed much on the margins…

Michael Gilchrest

As soon as you cracked the case, I was gobsmacked by how chunky the supply wires were. I'm using to seeing tiny stuff, like 20AWG or even smaller, in cheap Chinese stuff - but that stuff looks like it's at least 16AWG, maybe bigger? Hard to gauge scale.

Very nice. Almost too well engineered. It'll be obsolete before it breaks.

IKEA has mail order, you don’t have to wait. I mail ordered 3 of these, shipping and handling were reasonable.

This power supply is under 4$ usd, at the west coast IKEA, a remarkable value considering the quality Clive discovered, ( I ordered 3, ) just to retire my Chinese questionable quality units, Big Clive may have saved me from a possible future house fire.

Usual IKEA quality. Wouldn’t it be nice if they set up a subsidiary selling flat pack electronics, for those us that might light to assemble our own devices.

1:50 IKEA stuff doesn't come apart easily, not unless it's their furniture! 😂

A nicely made bit of kit. I have never been to Ikea, as there isn't one close enough to us, but If I do ever pass one some day, I will deffo be popping in to buy a few of those, as it's reassuring to see such great care in the design and manufacture.

I hate watching videos about good products that do what they're supposed to do. Doesn't give me anything to make snide comments about. [Grumble]

Thanks Clive. Aside from cardboard coffee tables, I've always found Ikea goods of great quality. Chucking out my cheap offshore-made chargers right now.

It's reassuring to see products where safety and efficiency were important to the designers. Not only do I feel safer but it reassures me that I'm not a fool to pay more for name brand.
