If that'd been one of the geese we had when I was a kid, the owner of that dog would be looking at a hefty vet bill. Our old Gander would tear flesh without provocation if you got between him and his girls.

Most of the dogs around our area (including our Springer - which we keep on a harness) tend to bark at any wildlife on our local pond before attempting to leap in, but as I've found if you have bread in one hand and dog in the other, the wildlife will still waddle up the bank for any food, regardless. Two geese on recognising our colourful plastic food bag, followed behind my wife for ages...

2023-06-07 21:43:11 +0000 UTCThe dog in is "instinct mode", had the goose gone floppy, it might have been carried out of the river undamaged. Gun dogs have 'soft palettes' for just this reason. The real question is where is the frickin' owner, who should be kicked up the arse for letting the dog harass the wildlife.
