DIN rail lightning strike counter?

Here's a weird one. A random AliExpress find that counts significant surge arrester incidents and displays the total on an LED display.

Stunningly low power at just 1/10th of a watt. Also keeps the score in non volatile memory, although the PCB design has legacy component positions indicating that it used to need a backup battery.

DIN rail lightning strike counter?

Comments

I tried adding a core and snapping a high power magnet onto it, but it didn't work. It really needs something like a dead short through a wire passed through it.

Keeping in mind that they are for 220V use:- https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006406078485.html

I really liking this. Clive do you have a link for ordering?

A nice little device. I would be interested to know if it actually works using that coil. Is there any way to simulate the needed current through a wire that will run through the opening of the coil?

Frank

So, this is a random counter?
