ASDA/Walmart solar light string showdown
Added 2024-05-21 03:04:02 +0000 UTCI'm in Glasgow right now, and saw that ASDA had their George brand summer solar lighting stock in. I got a set of each of the 50, 100, 250 and 500 lights to do a side by side comparison of circuitry and solar panel.
My pick from these is probably the 100 and 250 LED strings, because they have decent panels and NiMH cells. All the sets can be nudged to suit your needs by changing inductors and cells to suit your local sunshine levels.

FWIW, Asda are no longer part of Walmart, they are now owned by the brothers who own Euro Garages :)

2024-05-23 19:58:05 +0000 UTCOr maybe cut glass to fit and seal with UV resin? Don't know. I hate how they cloud up and thus far have found nothing to alleviate that.

2024-05-21 05:15:54 +0000 UTCNice. Thanks Big Clive. I kind of wish more of these came with the glass solar panels as I think they would be easy to seal around the edges on the exterior. Cleaning up the resin ones has been a disappointment for me. Maybe I'm using T-cut wrong but I'll try the solvent option. My latest experiment is to try to use some UV resin on half of one to see how it works, will is stay clear? I guess after a year, I'll get back to you with the results.
