Experiments with a big purple LED

Technically speaking they refer to this LED as being ultraviolet, but it's more at the deep violet end of the spectrum.  Very useful though, especially when tamed down to enhance the lifespan of the LED chips.

That's what this video is about.  A very easy way to reduce the power dissipation of the LED modules often found in floodlights, and make them last a lot longer.

Whether the lights can be dimmed depends on their internal circuitry.

I'd VERY much like to be able to dim a 100 watt LED floodlight, but you can't with conventional triac dimmers for obvious reasons. I am putting in 100 watt enclosed LED light in my workshop about 5 feet above the desk attached to the beams in the roof, a 50 watt is not enough light and 100 watt is just a little too much.

Fascinating. Thank you!

If I want to tap down the output of the LED, I just use a hammer.
