Inside a Pifco surge protector

Pifco is a very old British electrical brand that appears to have been bought by a company called Sabichi.
This is a surge protected extension I bought to check out the surge shunting circuitry.

Surge protectors, in my opinion, are good for two purposes. The first and primary reason is to give the salesperson a high profit margin device that they can tack on to your purchase of a low profit margin electronics equipment. The second reason is not to worry about protecting the electronics - if the electronics devices had needed surge protecting they would have included it inside. Surge protectors are often ineffective because they don't have an adequate ground. The only truly effective surge protector is one installed at the entrance of the power into the building. The MOVs often go bang and "let the smoke out," causing great alarm and creating a fire and safety hazard. I've read the warranties and they have so many restrictions that make it nearly impossible to collect damages caused by the failure of the protector.

Some users may find power surges with their vibratory health devices desirable. Excellent photoshopping by the way.
