Do you have a head for heights?

This is what it's like going up in the crane's elevator. It's very open and very wobbly. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

Sorry for the shady footage - it was filmed late at night. It would have been better to film this in daylight, although that would have made the experience a bit more intense.

Do you have a head for heights?

I think wearing glasses for nearsightedness also makes heights feel worse due to how the glasses affect distance perception. I remember finding it incredibly difficult and uncomfortable to do anything on a ladder above about 2m before I had cataract surgery (which also corrected my distance vision). Enclosed heights that don't wobble usually don't bother me, for example, I enjoyed a hot air balloon tour during a past holiday in Turkey.

Oh hell, you're complaining about an enclosed elevator? Try a six inch wide catwalk about 100' above the desert. That door leads to a second door in the antenna itself when the antenna is parked, and the catwalk goes up the lower strut to the focus. When i was in college i had to go up there with my prof to change over the receiver at the focus. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:OVRO_40-m#/media/File:OVRO_40m_telescope_18.jpg https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:OVRO_40-m#/media/File%3AOVRO_40m_telescope_19.jpg https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:OVRO_40-m#/media/File%3AOVRO_40_Meter_Radio_Telescope.jpg

Age is a funny thing. When I was a young guy, installing antennas, I didn’t have any problems with heights. Nowadays it’s a different matter. I watched this about 12 hours ago and my gonads still haven’t popped back down from their hiding place in my stomach.

Howard

To be perfectly clear...if I had a choice to go up as high as that or to lose my most favorite thing in the world? Sorry Clive :)

IamFubar

Standing on a two-step stepladder makes me freak out nowadays

IamFubar

That’s good to know.

Chris Horry

feck that, not my idea of a nice night out. 🤣 2x👍

DC Allan

Probably...

Curtis Hoffmann

I have never been so close to a crane. It´s like being there myself. Thank you!

Kurt

Thank you for this lovely ride! Also very nice rare view.

Kurt

Last year for the current creative director, so the content will change.

Big Clive

Probably an expensive crane.

With most lifts it doesn't take much to make the tilt alarm go off. JLG are one of the worst for that.

Big Clive

I'm not brilliant with heights but went up in a balloon a few times and it's quite relaxing!

Mike Page

Reminds me of my brief stint in commercial steel, one day I'm 100ft in the air on a mobile lift and the tilt alarm starts blaring. I'm panicking, the grizzled old welder standing next to me didn't even flinch.

Chris Horry

The vertical video add to the feeling of height. Very nice 👍

Built by the lowest bidder...

Curtis Hoffmann

I'm 5'7" and I don't like being this tall.....

Mike Hughes

Eff that. You're a braver man than me Clive. Feel sick just watching that...!

Rup (FastAsFunk)

Watched the tattoo on the BBC last night. Thought the lighting was excellent, a bit disappointed with the performers. It could be the BBC's editing.

Lorcán Adrain

Went up and tested a relatively short man-lift...then the guys down below killed the power. I'm not a fan of heights.

Adam McKnight

Wow clive that reminds me of my late friend who was an Iron worker .

Richard Lackie

They park it and kill the power when you are still up there. 😂

Lostngone

You're a braver man than me!!!

Doug Merrett

NO!!!!!!

John Key

Sweaty palms just watching it. But great nevertheless!

Philip Holland

NO!!!

Brad Walker

For this one I’d say It would depend on how much trust I have in the crew chief.
