Less than ideal lithium battery packs
Added 2024-08-31 02:23:56 +0000 UTCThis is the second time the Indian act has come with less than stellar lithium battery packs for their illuminated props/costumes. This year most of it was OK, but what appeared to be professionally made lithium 12V packs turned out to be cobbled together from random reclaimed 18650 cells with very dubious DIY spot welding, soldering directly to the cells and absolutely zero battery management to protect against imbalanced charging and short circuits.
I've discussed this with Vince the crew chief, and in future we will be assessing the battery packs, and if necessary, we will provide proper safe packs with matched cells and protection.
I can understand that there are serious budget limits in India, and the resultant props and costume pieces do look great. But we also have to consider the safety of the performers and the crew working with the battery packs.
