Novel mosquito fume generator
Added 2024-10-17 17:40:59 +0000 UTCI bought a few of this type of unit recently. They vary in complexity, but all have the same basic principle. They heat an oil with a tiny percentage of a synthetic pyrethrin in it, to create a vapour that is detected by mosquitos, and causes them to flee the area.
This is one of the most stylish versions, with the "night light" feature also being good for indicating the remaining fluid level.
Having tested a few of the units that arrived, they vary wildly in heating power, and therefore output and liquid usage.

My understanding of the "repellant" DEET, is that it doesn't repel the mosquitos, but instead it confuses their ability to smell the stuff (CO2?) that leads them to something theyd like to bite. It effectively blinds them. Perhaps that's what this stuff does???

2024-10-17 22:34:48 +0000 UTCI forgot about the properties of chrysanthemums as a fly repellent. I seem to remember that marigolds have a bug repellent as well, but more useful for protecting fruit and vegetables crops.
