Progressive LED failure in a clock

Not just a look at a faded clock with dead segments, but a suggestion of the best colour choice if you intend to get one of these.

This exact same clock was explored in a previous video and was then left running to see how fast the LEDs degraded. (Which they did!)

It wasn't even left running at full intensity - so the LEDs would have failed even faster if it had been used at full brightness.

Progressive LED failure in a clock

Comments

I've seen a few failed old-skool LEDs in the past. Including a ceramic package red LED in a synthesiser.

It's just a crude sound detector for lighting the display at night.

Like LED really means Light Eventually Diminishes

We have quite a few stage type LED lights and the red leds never seem to go. Blue first then a few green ones.

Nice clock. One could say a timeless piece...

What on earth is the mic for...? In the 80s, I had a Braun brand bedside alarm clock that stopped sounding when it detected a sound. Maybe something similar...?

Some of the late 70s/early 80s red LEDs faded badly. We’d get 7 year old portable audio mixers in for service where the red power LED had become so dim as to be hard to see.

Thanks Big Clive. Cool clock. I like the red.
