Suspicious nail fungus laser unit

A fairly common product on various online retail outlets. It's a unit that claims to cure many nail problems just by sticking a toe or finger in and zapping it with super laser technology.

Spoilers - there's no laser. But there are some very neat UVA LEDs ruined slightly with a dusting of phosphor to make them more visible. Exactly the same LEDs used for curing nail polish.

And it takes flipping ages!

The Dremel type approach with a fine sanding drum tends to have more affinity for hard nail than soft flesh. But you can still sometimes go a bit too far.

Big Clive

Sadly most don’t have your skill with power tools! 😸😉

Up to and including a Dremel drill ;) These days I attack with a dedicated pair of cutters, wearing gloves and using copious hand sanitiser. It's never spread beyond the one nail in 15 years.

To be fair, nail fungus is a major problem - there’s nothing that works drugs-wise, apart from a very strong drug that affects the kidneys which GPs are very reluctant to prescribe. All those paint-on remedies are basically useless. So one can see why people are desperate to try anything.

I'll try changing it to mono. It's currently on the default setting and may record differently in mono.

Big Clive

Just another random eczema patch. The plaster is there to protect the innocent.

Big Clive

Video and audio are good , voice deep but not booming here.

Thanks, Clive. "Nail Fungus" features in about 50% of the spam I get. It used to be little blue pills. Video looks good. Audio is good in stereo, a little muffled and artifacty in mono.

Mike Page

The stereo effect ist super irritating with the new recorder. Even when your're not moving so much around. When forced to mono, it's a bit boomy and loud.

Plenet

Uh oh .. did someone stab his finger with the spider, there must be a tale from the bandaid (a "plaster?")

I wonder how many other innocuous Chinesium devices, these enterprising folk at Ali Express affiliated companies, will find another "Health Benefit" from?

Mike Hughes

Thanks Big Clive. Interesting. Especially with the allergy thing too.
