UVC water sterilising bottle teardown

Although they recently became fashionable with the Larq version, these styles of sterilising bottles have been around for a very long time in their previous quartz tube versions.

They're basically water bottles with a built in UVC source that means you can sterilise water from streams and rivers while hiking, camping or after an apocalypse.

I started this video in the normal way and then decided it suited a "face-video start", so it may seem a bit double-started.

Well at least you can now sterilise Ralph's whisk(e)y supplies for him.

Jon Knight

That's an experiment I should try.

Interesting. Thanks Big Clive. I wonder how deep the UV light will penetrate the water?

I have 2 larq bottles and they use o-ring in place where this china stuffnisnusing proper rubber gasket, i have to replace tast larq oring twice, bad design, also whole concept is bs in case you are not on trip for days, wait you will be out of battery in 2days, ok then it is bs in all cases. But hey, it is good for you hauling useless half kg in backpack is something what IT guy needs :D

Killing the germs is the lesser need. Chemical conanimation, as well as particulate matter are the bigger issues.

Dustin S Cochran

just have a person to test it with river water … what's the worse that could happen?

Amro

The unit is built well but as you said does it kill all the bad stuff that could be found in water? We need someone with a microscope to check water say from a pond before going into the bottle then after treatment.

I think the average non technical "normie" viewers prefer the face-opening videos as they are a bit more welcoming than a cold open of a circuit board.
