Vacuum sealer teardown

A test and teardown of a very common style of vacuum sealer found on eBay and most of the other unregulated marketplaces. This one came from AliExpress.

Very simple design for the functionality, and the pump and heater are both very basic and functional.

Interesting teardown, Clive. As others have commented, Eastern Japan is 100V 50Hz. I notice the heating element is unfused. I assume it will fail safe given enough aggravation. Here on Planet Loop Test we see a lot of issues with mains noise triggering SCRs and we often fit gate capacitors and sometimes terminal capacitors. MOVs are not enough. A local company asked us to look into a remote window breaker (for bomb disposal). They'd been using a pull line and wanted to explore something electronic. They showed us a nailgun. The thing had no noise filter at all besides the wound solenoid - and I think there may have been a cap. I'd love to see the risk assessment for that!

I was wondering about that! I wasn't sure if the 120V regions of Japan were 50 or 60 Hz.

Most of Japan is on 120V 50Hz , so it's not safe to use frequency to indicate voltage.
