It might be worth experimenting with a temporary run of CAT5 or 6 cable and testing the results. Maybe even leaving the cable on the roll and testing with a spare camera for an extreme test.

There may have been a general formula change in many brands of alkaline cells, where if they are left unused or discharged at a very low rate they may pressurise internally and leak. Particularly annoying for equipment that won't operate with the lower voltage of rechargeable cells. In my more expensive test equipment I have switched to the 1.5V lithium cells to avoid leakage. Much more expensive, but very long life with low current equipment, and they have an extremely low risk of leaking.

I hope you (Clive) review the CCTV adaptors. We have digital CCTV cameras, as I think all modern systems use now. The idea of just running a quick length of CAT5 with one of those adaptors at each end instead of shotgun cable, would be much easier , cheaper and quicker. But what is the image/sound quality like over cat5 vs the same length of shotgun cable? Preferably 10 yards of each. I can supply shotgun cable, but its weight might be costly to ship to IOM from NE UK. You (Clive) know where I am if you want the cable shipped!! Keith W.

Never never trust Duracell batteries. I’ve had four occasions where AA and AAA cells have leaked. Duracell blamed the equipment even when they were told the equipment was a low current NHS approved device. Duracell blame the equipment for drawing too much current, even when they were told the equipment would still work with Energizer cells because we could not trust Duracell, even quoting the discharge current as a few tens of mA. Since then I/we have never used Duracell again, even if equipment comes with Duracell batteries, they are swapped for Energizer. And yes we have had two Energizer cell problems, but Energizer do not blame the customer, they are happy to replace and fix/replace the damaged item. You’d think I work for Energizer, no, I’m a Registered Nurse. But we don’t use Duracell.

What fun. It's always like Christmas when a bag of stuff from Ali comes. Thanks Big Clive.
