Proper blacklight flashlight
Added 2024-11-14 09:07:09 +0000 UTC
I added this to an order as a novelty item, expecting it to just be deep violet. But it really is a blacklight torch/flashlight, with a dark UVA filter on the front.
Quite a pleasing little light.

Yes, I wouldn't have found it otherwise. They were jumping about 10" up between the end wall and the roof behind the rafter and into the soffit. The gap they were getting through was about 8mm high.
They may be devious but they aren't very clever. I just put a planter trough half full of water underneath where they jump down. 18 dead in the week.

I did notice some plastics lit up in unexpected colours. Did you find where the mice were going?

I bought this one 2 months ago. It has a 26650.

I bought it to track UV reactive corn starch. I put a ring of it around some mouse food in the loft of my workshop. The mouse tracks through the fine powder so you can visually trace them back to where they get in and out using the UV torch.
When I was messing about with the torch, I found out that Milwaukee tools aren't red. I made a video. (may include dancing and high vis clothing)

For the sake of your sanity never use it in the kitchen. There are far too many otherwise innocuous traces that can light up and leave you with uncomfortable questions.

I actually recommend against using something like this in a hotel. Sometimes it's better off not knowing what hides in the sheets - or on the wallpaper.

Or other signs of activity in hotels :-)

I bought some USB-C rechargable ones that are also real 365 nm with a filter. You can find them on AliExpress searching for "Cat Moss Detection Light Black Mirror". Sometimes, they are available in "Bundle Deals" for less than 2 USD each including shipping.

You'll love it. Perhaps even find hidden marks on PCBs or signs of repairs.

Nice. Just ordered one. It has been all of a day since my last order... You're promoting my bad habits :-)

The maximum output voltage is not in the table, but in the text: At 5V, the chip stops working, it starts again when VOUT is 4.6 V or below (hysteresis).

Yes, about 317 mA. But it does not change that much regarding your video. The OVP pin is not really OVP, but just OUT. The datasheet mentions "Open LED Protection", but does not state any maximum output voltage. On the other hand, it mentions driving just one LED, so I think the output voltage would not go that high.

That would make the current closer to a 1W LED.

That could be it. In hindsight I should have measured the feedback voltage to narrow it down.

The DC-DC converter chip is marked with a MICRONE (Nanjing Micro One Elec) logo, so I think it is an ME2206AM6G-N, https://www.lcsc.com/datasheet/lcsc_datasheet_2203300930_MICRONE-Nanjing-Micro-One-Elec-ME2206AM6G-N_C2983839.pdf

I ask because there's usually interesting information on the FCC id website https://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid

I very much doubt that any of those symbols are valid.

I notice it has an FCC symbol on it : does it have an FCC number?

Unfortunately the AliExpress link doesn’t work for me. It comes up with page not found.

I use one similar for setting UV sensitive resin - both the products used for encapsulation and accidental splashes and spills from a resin printer.

Just got one of these. I am a volunteer tour guide in a copper mine and one of the visitors had one which was great for spotting fluorite in the veins. Fluorite fluoresces in UV otherwise very small crystals are hard to see. Season's finished now so Santa is bringing it for me.

I got a rechargeable version from the same maker last month. It uses the same whitey LED and the near-black high-pass filter.
The ring that retains the filter unscrews from the end, and the filter which is about 1mm thick falls out.
Also, can confirm it works on tinea. I shone it onto some tinea toes, and the tinea light up extremely brightly.
