Eating a FORBIDDEN Kinder Egg

One of those bizzare regulatory things, where Americans are not allowed a candy that is popular in the entire rest of the world. It even carrieds a possible fine of hundreds to thousands of dollars per egg if you try smuggling them in.

This video was also a test of why none of my videos were getting auto-dubbed into other languages. It appears that the auto dubbing doesn't happen if you use your phone to upload videos, as I do. So I now have to port them to my chromebook and upload them from there instead!

Eating a FORBIDDEN Kinder Egg

Comments

Confirmed they sell a smaller version of those with a toy inside. I see them at gas stations in the US.

Jaden Huibregtse

FWIW, most of the feedback I've seen from non English-first-language people is that the auto-translation dubs are utter garbage and they hate them (especially since YT "helpfully" defaults to them)...

Jrandom Bob

Remove all warnings from all packaging and let Darwin sort it out.

Derek Smith

It's funny how they thinking the laws and restrictions they put on stuff in america is there to save us .

Richard Lackie

… not allowed because people will eat plastic, but from liability risk..

Carleton Wheeler

It’s the lawyers…

Carleton Wheeler

its funny this is a problem bc the US are otherwise a playground for things like GMO foods, and you don't know your eating the damn things bc labeling is not required

Chris Watson

Used to? They still do,

Ironically this is the video where Clive went out of his way to *enable* the AI Translations (by uploading from a "desktop" not by "mobile" :-) So Clive reverting to uploading from mobile, would probably default the AI translations to off again. Otherwise for desktop uploads I understand it *can* be disabled per-upload, but *must* be disabled on each individual upload (as it now defaults to on for desktop uploads of "tech" related videos). I too would prefer AI audio translations were off, as it messes up the audio when AirPlaying videos (Google sort the original order in the middle of the list, not first, and Apple AirPlay and a bunch of other video playback UI has no mechanism to change audio track so always play the audio at the 0th position in the list -- now often AI audio in a random language). Since I usually AirPlay videos (from a tablet to a much larger screen TV), I too would prefer the AI audio was disabled, so I can hear the original audio track when playing video that way. Ewen

The Pure Food and Drug Act has one crystal-clear prohibition: you can't put inedible items in food. Period. Considering all the horrendous stuff food manufacturers used to mix in, I'm very happy that the law is that unambiguous.

I managed to stomach the German one for less than five seconds, then I had to pause... Clive - with your calm, soothing voice being one of your video's most precious assets, please don't subject unknowing people semi-automatically to the horror that are those AI dubs if at all possible... D:

The US also banned thalidomide a drug which caused hundreds of deaths and deformities in Europe and the UK. I appreciate cautious regulators like Dr Frances Oldham Kelsey who refused to approve a dangerous drug.

Chris Whittington

You can buy them here from import shops, but the regular ones have the toy and egg separated. Weirdos.

Chris Horry

I'm not sure putting coins in cake was ever a good idea.

Big Clive

Love that. Want one!

Jack Hodgson

here in the Patreon player I can select between German, Japanese and Spanish, but not "original" or any other form of "no audio dub"

adorfer

other you tubers (here on Patreon, smaller and bigger YT channels) mange to turn off AI voice over. If BigClive can not do that, cased by whatever limitation, that's a shame! and yes I can turn it off in YT, but not when watching via the Patreon App. (bad service for paying customers... I have probly wait until videos are released public)

adorfer

I don't think Clive can control the auto-dub, but you can change the language in Settings/Audio Track

Stuart

Clive, your German voice sounds weird... please turn off those Ai auto voice overs.

adorfer

The American Junkies must store their drugs in something else then...

These were my weekly treat as a kid. Used to love the more complex toys, I still have a tiny metal soldier that really angered me as a child as there was nothing to build! The old eggs without the hinge were fun to put baking soda and vinegar in to make them pop, the hinged ones can be linked to make a ring with enough of them, maybe an odd lighting fixture if LEDs would penetrate.

Search youtube for "Why are Kinder Eggs Illegal in the USA?" On Today I Found Out.

Curtis Hoffmann

That's my Christmas pudding sixpence gone then.

Jim Hewlett

I suppose the american version could simply lack anything inside. That would be the surprise. Considering the German translation, + impending Trumpism, + prohibition...how about an AI fake voice with Trump's intonation 'Der Kinder egg verboten ist'?

Jim Hewlett

Complex electronic diagrams.. No problem. 5 piece hoppy rabbit... Needs instructions. The mind is a mysterious place.

RonNona

The kinder surprise eggs are allowed in the US again, just they have an annoying lack of a toy inside, its usually some paper thing.

NightshadeLenar

Clive, you are making the Americans jealous. It's funny how they cannot have these, but they have countless products that contain internationally recognised carcinogens.

Dennis

Clive, you were right, autotranslation can be dangerous. The German version basically says at one point in the beginning (0:50): "... making sure that I swallow the plastic toy and not the chocolate" and then it speaks about "lead-containing lemonade". It also does pronounce chocolade wrong in German, it sound more like a translation of "choco shop". All in all, just awful translations.

Kai-Steffen Hielscher

Plastic is part of the food pyramid. Like it or not. Mwaha!

Wim

Can't have non-food itrms inside a food product.
